I love that we finally have a new loyalty system. The items are adorable and it's better than getting the same bobblehead every time you buy something from the CS.

But I don't like that it completely excludes the users who purchase CSC from other users with sP. I would rather the loyalty system be similar to the old one in a sense that for every 1000 credits you SPEND (not buy) counted towards the achievement/stamps/etc.

This. You're alienating a huge portion of your user base.

As someone who doesn't purchase CSC directly, I wasn't happy about being excluded when the loyalty system was first announced several months ago. However, we were told at the time that it would be a way to unlock account buffs, which you can't really share with anyone.

The loyalty cards we just got just give items the way that Stripe and Paypal purchases sometimes do, and I've always been ok with that because I can just buy the items when they come down in price. I'm perfectly fine with this.

I have to say though, if we ever do get a way to unlock account buffs, I do want spent CSC to count toward that in some way so that everyone has a chance to participate.

I believe Keith said he wanted to reward the users who actually buy the CSC (iirc). I don't like it, but I do get it, I guess.

I think $100 to finish a loyalty card is a little too much, especially if they'll be retiring often (got that impression from the news? idk). Some of those prizes will be pretty unavailable. I'd rather if the site had gone forward with the perks idea, honestly, that way I'm not WL'ing items I know I'll not get - which would make me feel better about these changes, lol.

I disagree, Subeta needs to make money and this is a good way to do it. I know I'm a sucker for things like this. I just hope we don't have to complete the cards too quickly and they give us at least 3-4 months or so for each one. :x

It should be great for people who buy their CSC solely with SP too (I personally do a mixture of both, I buy CSC with money when I can but a lot of the time I have to buy cards with SP)- hopefully now the price and availability of those CSC cards will start to come down.

Besides, as said, they're only items and will end up in user shops at some point.

The new system doesn't bother me. Then again, the new system didn't bother me when the idea was first announced whenever that was. All of the rewards cards I have at other establishments -- e.g. Panera, GameStop -- reward me for my actual purchases, not for the items I buy from someone else who first bought it from the company. It makes sense to directly reward the people who are the ones actually spending the $$ on the site. And you'll still be able to buy the items later from someone else who got it from the sticker card.

I would have preferred the buffs idea, and I'm not sure what happened to that, but outside of the collection items, I don't want any of the new items, so all the better for my pocketbook. I know I'm never finishing the plushie collection anyway.

Usually people don't resell their bagels though. This is different in the sense that you can buy CSC in two ways: directly from the site ($$) or from other users (sP). You can only buy bagels with one currency. Therefore, I don't agree with that comparison at all.

You can buy the items (maybe) depending on how many people reach the end of the loyalty card, don't want the items for themselves, and how long each card sticks around. And even still, I feel a majority of people are going to super inflate these items because they can. You can't buy the achievements or the stamps. Well, you can, with real money XD I guess we should just make all achievements buyable with RL money.

I disagree. I could give $5 to a coworker and ask them to pick up a scone and a coffee from Panera. Their rewards card would obviously be the one that's credited instead of mine. Alternatively, people frequently pick up a dozen bagels from Panera to bring into work. Even if I give them a couple bucks to compensate for buying me breakfast, I don't expect Panera to recognize the transaction or that the original purchaser was not necessarily the end consumer. Or, if you want to get into the two currencies idea, I could reimburse my coworker for my bagel by doing a morning report for them. That's compensating them for the convenience of having breakfast purchased and delivered without using real cash.

How is this different from when you got a special item when you bought CSC via Stripe or Paypal on those special weekends? Subeta needs to pay the bills, like any other site. The loyalty card items, like the Paypal/Stripe items, will go into user's shops to buy.

Agreed. Yes, I am one of those users that have to purchase CSC from other users. Honestly, this system does not give me any desire to purchase from the site directly, mainly because you can not squeeze blood from a dry rock.

We're getting new features, that means there's staff behind all this working so that Subeta doesn't "crash and burn" like certain doomsdayers have been saying.

At the end of the day, this doesn't exclude any part of the userbase. You buy CSC with sP, huh ? Then buy the items with sP, instead of buying csc, turning it in, and getting the items as rewards.

Okay, so I definitely get the sentiment behind rewarding users who actually buy csc with money, but it would also be nice if we could get a reward for spending csc too. Like maybe smaller/fewer rewards, in order not to discourage people from buying csc. I think this could help both in terms of rewarding people who can't spend real money on csc, and keep people from buying tons of csc just to resell. Although from the staff point of view, I am not sure this latter is a problem.

I'm also really hoping csc that comes with subscription renewals contributes to the loyalty cards, because it is still users spending real money. Part of the reason I do the subscription is to sort of standardize the amount of csc I buy? So I would be kind of disappointed if that csc doesn't count toward the loyalty thing.

And last thought: how often are the reward items going to retire? Because if it's like every month or two, well, I think $100 is a lot to be spending on subeta for that amount of time, which makes it hard for most users to really work on filling their cards...

You mean rewards for spending sP ? What the hell for ? There's already MC achievements for that, and it goes up to multiple billions.

People don't buy CSC with sP to get the random worthless rewards, they do it because they need things from the shop. I don't see how any of this will discourage them.

People who buy their CSC with sP aren't funding the site, though. Sure, you're getting the same items as the next guy, which is great for you, but why should you be rewarded for making a purchase when you're really not? Long story short, buying from the Cash Shop doesn't actually do shit to help the site. Buying CSC does.

I think this system makes sense. The rewards are to thank users for their loyalty and willingness to actually put money into the site.

I love that you can still buy CSC from other users with sP unlike others (neopets), so that you can play for free but still enjoy any of the items you can save for. and this is well and fine and primarily how I play, but by doing so I'm not putting any money into the site and don't feel like I need to be rewarded for spending sp on csc to buy from the cash shop.

so this is great for users who do contribute money to the site. I don't feel more pressured to spend real money on the site, but I have some cool new items to save my sP for (or slowly wait for with $5 purchases here and there, you can go at your own pace)

I'm just curious about whether or not subscriptions will count. I don't currently have a job, so I have no income to speak of, let alone to spend on Subeta (Unless I'm very whiny and my husband gives in to my shrill pleading). But when I am employed once again, and when our finances are more secured I definitely plan on getting a monthly subscription.

It'll be money spent on the site, cash given over, so will it count, or will only pure CSC purchases count? I'd love a staff answer.

The old system was better. Even though it was all (or mostly) lame bobbleheads, I still got something from purchasing from the CS. But now, I have to buy csc using Paypal and the other systems to get anything. And I don't have the money or ability to do that.

Why can't there be a little reward for spending csc?

This is something the staff chose to do, not something they needed to do. They chose to give a little something to the people that are literally spending their own money on the site, which at the end of the day is what keeps this site up and running.

Buying CSC from another user, or even getting it from turning in CWs at the pawnshop doesn't really help to do that. Sure, you could argue that the person might not have bought as much CSC if someone didn't buy it - but that's unrealistic as there will always be users looking to buy it irregardless.

I for one think it's a neat idea. I'll probably never complete a card but it's nice that they're rewarding the people who actually keep the site funded enough to stay up and running. We're not entitled to any of this, they are offering it as a perk.

I've bought all my CSC with sP except on one occasion and I think Subeta is right in giving the new loyalty perks to users who are directly spending money on the site.

Just want to take a few minutes out to clear up some of the hesitations on the loyalty cards.

Taking a trip down memory lane - several years ago, Subeta was one of the first sites to allow users to purchase account upgrades (Gold Accounts) and items (then called 'Donation Items') as items on site. Other sites utilized subscription services for account upgrades and there was hardly any markets for individual items. Subeta would then allow users to trade or sell the account upgrades and items for sP - another revolutionary idea for online communities and cash shops. Subeta has never wavered on that idea -- we will always allow users who cannot (or do not) purchase CSC to enjoy all of the account upgrades and items in our Cash Shop by using sP. Please do not think that Subeta would "exclude" users that do not buying CSC directly or that we "prefer" users that do. It is not the case and I think we show that in our history of being the first to include those users and our endless efforts to increase the access to buying CSC directly for those that do not have a Paypal, access to UGC outlets, debit/credit cards, and related. Those efforts are not so that we can pull money from every which way and direction, but rather to make it easier for users who have hesitations and limitations. There are a number of users that are under 18 and do not have a debit/credit card, then others simply do not like online transactions and prefer game cards and redeemable cards that they can buy in person - we really try to support each and every possible way.

There are several ways in which users receive are thanked for their financial support as well. We've had two sets of bobbleheads that came free with every purchase for four years. We've given out bonuses for purchasing X items during Black Friday. Then we have had a dozen or so sets that gave out a bonus item when you bought the entire set. We have achievements for purchasing items from the Hustler, having a billboard, and buying other items from the CS. You can view them as incentives, but they are, at its core, an additional bonus to the item or service that you are enjoying. It is silly to think of the loyalty cards as a discouragement. Is an achievement for buying from the Hustler a discouragement when you want a free item for buying from the Hustler? No, it's not - it's just a different basis for reward and appreciation. These loyalty cards and rewards are just another basis.

This is, of course, not mentioning the amount of ways in which we give out CSC or cash shop items through referring your friends, raffle tickets, and similar features. These features add up. There are instances of users buying 1000 CSC and then spending 750 CSC and still having some leftover. That adds up, too. There is nothing wrong any of this, either - we enjoy seeing users happy to receive CSC and we are happy to give it out as perks and bonuses. But, put bluntly, there is a lot of CSC saved on user accounts and there have been countless times where we have released new items in the CS and the amount of CSC that was spent on the items in the CS far exceeded the amount of cash (from CSC purchases) that we earned from that day. If you looked at the numbers for those days, you wouldn't be able to discern that we released new items. You'd think it was just another day. It is a misconception to think that staff swims in a pool of cash on the days we release new CS items. We realize the cash income from the CSC over time, of course, but it is not directly correlated to the day or days following a release. (In other words - the cash that comes in is relatively flat on a day to day basis but the CSC that is spent varies a lot from day to day because of releases.) Now, we release items in the Cash Shop because Subeta is a company. We are here to provide a fun adventure and game for each and every single player, GA or not. That requires money - money to pay for the servers, artwork, and programming. Every dollar that is earned goes straight back into the site to produce content and to make Subeta better, more fun, and more dynamic.

As someone mentioned - the Loyalty Cards are more formalized and pronounced way to give out rewards to users that purchase CSC directly as we have done strikingly similarly with Paypal and Stripe purchases. That foundation was coupled with a fun reward card stamp idea. These are meant to last for several months. We're not crunching them to a week and saying that you need to drop $100 or bust - we tailored them to the way that most users spend CSC on a monthly and seasonal basis.

--

A bit unrelated, but as a takeaway: I can't remember who said, but someone pretty big in the tech world was giving a speech and he said something along the lines that people will spend hours and hours researching an iPhone app to see if it is worth the $2 price tag, but they'd have no hesitations walking into the new coffeehouse that opened up down the block and paying $5 for a latte. Now, sure, Subeta does not cost money to play, but I think the sentiment still stands in that people think differently when spending money on "virtual goods." You can reduce Subeta to just pixels and a few rows in a database, but that isn't to say that you can't reduce a latte to steamed milk and espresso beans. In economic terms, you receive some utility from the entertainment. (There might even be diminishing returns, too!) But the point here is to take a step back and realize that Subeta is actually not any different from other activities that we do all of the time for leisure (like trying a new coffeehouse). On top of that - you are not funding a CEO’s multi-million dollar bonus or throwing money straight into the trash. You are putting money in Subeta and Subeta is taking that money and putting it building a better game for you.
