I haven't changed my avatar in a while. So I wanted to now. problem is, it's not taking on the items I put on it and stays with the old ones... I was able to change the gender and the color of the skin, but nothing else. Can someone please help me with this issue?

my guess is that you may have too many items in one layer, for some reason the old Wardrobe isn't showing a fail if you try to save with too many layers on anymore. However, your problem could be more general.

Go to Problems & Bugs and looki for the Wardrobe problems thread, maybe it's in Known Bugs now? Anyways, try all of the things that thread suggests.
