So, uh... that's a pretty small option of genres. And there's a number of genres missing. And that's not even counting minor genres that people might want.

There are music CDs as items on the site. Minus the holiday ones, they are Classical, Country, Jitterbug, Pop, Rap, Rock. Yet only Pop and Rock are available genres. I can see that Classical might not be as desired for a BotB contest, but Country is not the same as Folk, and there's nothing even close to Jitterbug or Rap.

I wanted to create more of a World group, but at the very least, Country, Jazz, and Rap should be added, as well as an "other" to catch stuff that falls out of those categories.

[edit] Bluegrass is also missing. Country/Bluegrass could be an option. Metal also is pretty broad, and not all of it fits under "Alternative". Like Epic Power Metal.

I didn't make the band I'm in, so I'm not sure how many options there are, but my best guess is that the options are limited because:

1. You're condensing a small site's userbase into even smaller segments by making people group together 1a. So splitting out into all the wide range of music genre options would create a lot of genres with only one or two actual bands in it.
2. They have a set number of winners they want to award prizes to

And as for your edit, it personally makes sense to me that they aren't going to split out metal further. I can think of around 30 separate metal subgenres, and that's without going into the really minor subgenres. So it seems to me like you just pick the closest fitting option. It's not like we're actually producing a real song here.

Before I joined a band, I was kind of hoping that there was a comedy genre. I so would have been begging a friend who doesn't play anymore to log in just for this. lol

But yeah, I kind of see why they didn't want too many genres.

I don't like country much but I do think they could have included country, considering there are a lot of users, from what I see, who like it. Not asking for really obscure genres, I mean country is a pretty big and popular genre.

Jazz would have been pretty cool. Maybe I could have made one of those bands where it's just me singing and there are unknowns playing in the background.

Uh... since "Alternative" is a specific genre of music, can it be changed to "other" please?

oooh, i remember that i wanted a trap or rap section! do you know how hard i would've laughed if there had been an all-grandma trap group? i can definitely see why the categories were limited, though.
