Ever time I use an item, no matter what it is, my pet always says that it's boring. Any suggestions?

Pets won't play with a toy if their happiness is at its maximum and Minions keep a Pet happy. Take off the Minion, wait about a day and see if it helps.

Also, make sure your Pet isn't in a resort.

on Personal / Pets is the page that shows all your pets. To the upper right of each pets' box there are two fat bars. The top one is hunger, and the bottom one is happiness. This is how you can tell if your pet is hungry or unhappy. As it gets reduced, the bar shrinks to the left and changes color. Green is good, Yellow so-so Red is bad, and Empty is worst.

Thanks for explaining things, I found out my pet was in the red with the food. So I fed her lots, and she's not hungry anymore. :)
