I'm sorry, this is probably a really stupid question, but I couldn't find this anywhere. I remember that you ping users by writing . But I just tried pinging someone that way, and it didn't work. The name didn't become a link to the user and the user wasn't notified. Has the pinging system (for individual users) changed? Or is it possible that some individual users can't be pinged?

Some users can't be pinged, but I think that only happens if it's someone with a period in their name, and a user already exists who has an underscore instead (since you ping users with a period by typing user_name instead of user.name)

Sometimes the ping doesn't show up right away as a link, with the new forums. If you refresh and it still doesn't show, you probably spelled the name wrong.

one way to ping someone with an unpingable name that worked in the old forums, is to go to their User Profile, finding a Recent Post of theirs, and then using the ping button on that post as if you were going to reply to that thread. Then Copy and Paste. I dunno if this works in the new forums. You may have to Comment her if this doesn't work either.
