I recently thought about doing character design auctions, so I made four designs for my first batch.
Opinions on them? Would you buy them? Do they look interesting?
If I get a good enough response on them, then I'll make a board at the weekend over in the art auctions.
Just thought you guys would be interested.
Your designs are good, but I don't think they would be the sort of designs people would want to buy. The positions that you've put the animals in hide nearly half of the creature. When I think of character designs I usually think of design sheets where the design is shown multiple times from a number of different angles. People also expect designs to be a tad more complex and more thought out-more original and unique. And with character designs you don't just half to focus on the character's outward appearance, you should make them original physically as well. Give them poses, facial expressions or little quirks that are original to them. Use conflicting ideas like an eight year old girl who dresses like a construction worker because she's very strong and can lift heavy objects that no normal eight year old girl could lift. Or a war veteran covered with scars, ripped with muscles and constantly glaring yet is a big baby or a really nice guy.
I do have suggestion to help improve your designs and improve your artwork as well: Brush up on some of the basic of colour theory. I find that tutorials on dA are big help such as - http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=color+theory#/d1zx4ie They can help immensely when it comes to the choice of colours for your character
Hope that helps, can't wait to see more of your character designs!
Thank for the suggestions. They're really appreciated.
Reasons why I positioned them like that is because I always make my designs symmetrical due to my memory problems.
Really? You could possibly try different types of symmetry in your designs such as rotational symmetry. Example:
That way your designs could be more interesting, but you could still remember them( although this would probaly only work with the patterns on your character rather that the character itself ).
