Does it matter if you buy it from the CS or from someone else? I'm worried that it may be necessary to buy from the CS to receive any exclusive items within the event...like once you buy the ticket from the CS your name is documented and registered and that's the only way you can receive any exclusive CS event items.

If this is the case, I'm in trouble :(

The news post states that you need to have your ticket on hand for the event, so I assume that as long as you own the ticket, you're safe.

If you don't buy directly from the cash shop, you won't get the .

If there is anything else exclusive to the VIP ticket (during the actual event), my guess is that you would be eligible for that. You could try submitting a ticket, don't know if they'll be able to tell you anything though, it might all be super secret.
