So I don't have good luck on Valentine's Day:
11 years ago tomorrow, my grandmother Cooper was buried. 6 years ago tomorrow, my grandfather Walker died of pneumonia related to lung cancer.
Tomorrow, my cat, Sidney, whose 13, goes under local anaesthetic to remove a tooth that has come loose.
Today he was given painkillers and antibiotics, and smushy food to eat today... but God I am so scared he won't wake up tomorrow, I here all these horror stories... and my family has the worst luck on Valentine's day. :(
He's back from the doctors, with only his tiny teeth at the front and about two teeth on his left side, but no smelly breath. He's got complications with his kidneys and possibly diabetes though, so further tests for that, but I'm just glad he's back. :) Even if he's slightly bald and now pulls strange faces!

Surely they'd be using general anaesthetic for a cat's teeth? I think if the vet has offered the treatment then it's probably the lesser of two evils. 13 isn't that old for a cat either. I had a cat that died at the age of 13 but she had a heart murmur that she'd always had, so that was possibly what killed her. My other two lived to 17 and 20 and both died of suspected brain tumours. I am hoping for you that you have a good few years less with Cooper at least. :) Let us know that he's okay.

Do you mean more and Sidney? XD Haha I'm not sure, it's one of them he has to go under, and they are checking his liver to see if he needs a drip before hand, I am so nervous, we drop him off at 8 and pick him up at 5. I hope it all goes well he has such a personality. XD

That's really sad to hear. I know how worried you can be when your pets have to see the doctor. Our cat had a similar surgery a year ago or so and we were really happy when we could take her home again and knew that everything went fine. I'm sure Sidney will be okay too! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you :).
Aw thank you so much! Glad everything went fine with you cat! ^-^ Gives me more hope.
[tot=Jenni]
I'm sorry to hear about what has happened before on Valentine's Day. I'm sure your cat will be fine. I will keep him in my thoughts :)
Thank you! He's there now, he refused to go into the box this time but was okay once he was let out and started purring again, when I came back without him the two girls are acting really strange haha. We will know by 12 - 3 if it all went smoothly, crossing my fingers and toes. :)
[tot=Jenni]
- Aww bless him. They do have a sixth sense about vets don't they lol. I will keep my fingers crossed for him too :)
Thank you again! :)
He's in recovery now, his blood tests showed that his kidneys weren't functioning that well so he was put on a drip, and also when they were polishing his teeth they realised his other teeth were infected with his gums, so he had more taken out, and his new name is gummy. xD
But he's slowly waking up out of it now, but we can't pick him up till 6:30pm because of his drip. :(
[tot=Jenni]
- Aww, I'm glad he's okay! Also, cats are prone to kidney problems when they're older. You will probably have to feed him special food, that's all. It is nothing to worry about :) Make sure to give him lots of love and kisses and tell him that there are people on Subeta wishing him well! :D
Hehe thank you! I'm sure he appreciates it... somehow.
He's back home now, he's supposed to be sleepy with no appetite but he's running around searching for food, but he can only eat boiled/roasted chicken and I don't want to give him that much.
He's had all his canines out, he's been left with his little teeth at the back and some on his right side, but I'm worried about the fact they think he may have kidney disease or diabetes. I know diabetes can be controlled by diet, but it's just strange cause he's acted normal. Normal sugar levels should be 4, he was 21, stressed cats can be around 15, so he's a little strange, maybe he was uber stressed.
I'll stop spamming now but he's alive that's all I can ask for <3 even if his face is really weird now. XD
[tot=Jenni]
- Aww :) I'll bet he will feel strange for a while and wonder why his mouth doesn't feel right hehe. He'll get used though. My mouth felt weird when I had a wisdom tooth out, like the whole of my teeth had been misaligned. So weird.
Well, whatever happens, I'm sure he will be happy about all the love and fuss he gets. That's what I like about having pets; when they're ill or look like they're really sad, you can give them some love and hugs and it is like they perk up. It seems a lot easier to cheer up an animal than it is to cheer up a person lol. And remember, nowadays, a lot can be done for animals with diseases like diabetes and even kidney problems.
Now I'm the one spamming XD
No it actually really helps! :) He keeps licking at his teeth then I can see the confusion on his face and he keeps doing it like 'where the hell are my teeth?' But he loves attention so much, like in the doctors he won't stop purring cause he has all these people fussing him ahaha. He's still walking around looking for food, bless him, I've given him some chicken but that's all he can have, and I don't want to over do it tonight. XD I wish I could feel better with a pat on the head LOL
and I know!! If I ever had a tooth fall out it'd feel so strange, especially with how weird the gum/hole feels. I always hated that part. Bless him. Least he doesn't have smelly breath anymore!
Haha & he has the small ones at the front (I said back on my last post, idk I'm tired lmfao)
[tot=Jenni]
- Aww haha. It would be funny to find out exactly what is going through their mind in situations like that. My cats don't like chicken. They turn their noses up at it. They tend to like fish more than normal meat. Yeah me too XD It doesn't take an awful lot to cheer me up, though. I tend to be quite optimistic and easily pleased lol.
I always poke holes and things with my tongue. I can't help it :( And that's good about him not having smelly breath. It's horrible when they want fuss and come over to you and then they breathe over you and after awhile you have to push them away because you can't stand the smell. My cats don't have bad breath yet but the cats I had in my past were old and had smelly breath. One of them had to have all her teeth removed just like yours. She wasn't happy XD
Awww bless her, I don't think I'd be happy to have all my teeth taken out, tbf. Is it bad to say it's good to know other people have been through this? Like my cats not going through some strange problem no other cats do, idk, xD
Sidney loves chicken, but then again he loves anything. If you have any food he will usually come and be nosy and want to eat some of it. ¬_¬ and the girls also do it, too, so I have like three cats staring at me like O3O and then I have no dinner left. :( Weird how fussy cats can be over food though o_o
And I'm glass is half empty, the depressing side. LOL ;A;
[tot=Jenni]
- Nah there are loads of cats that go through this same thing. Although I'm pretty sure that any cat who is having something done that isn't nice thinks that they're the only one going through it XD Cats seem to adopt a woe-is-me attitude and I can't blame them - it's one way they know how to get fuss!! I love cats. They're clever, cute and just full of personality.
My grandad's cat used to love oranges. Cats are supposed to hate oranges with a passion but this cat just loved eating tinned orange segments. Have you also noticed how cats take the tiniest pieces of food? I always think they've got small mouths and then they yawn and it's like "woah".
Well, I say it like that too. Because I used to be a pessimist, but things just changed and I started viewing things positively. But yeah I think that phrase will remain XD
Oranges?! That's so strange haha but cute xD
My cats like weird things, but only weird cause you wouldn't imagine it, like one cat likes salt and vinegar french fries, I caught another one chewing on a cigarette... seriously... a cigarette... junk food druggie cats LOL
And mine gulp down their foods but I'm still like woah when they yawn cause seriously their whole face must peal back LOL
Have you ever noticed how crunchy they make cat biscuits sound? They are actually really soft. DON'T ASK ME HOW I KNOW... -whistles-
[tot=Jenni]
Yay! Glad he's home and well. I even checked I had the name right and knew it was Sidney, so not really sure why I still managed to get that wrong! Must have been distracted by my Lenny!
I have toothbrush and toothpaste for Lennox, but not yet at the point of brushing his teeth. He's still not convinced by me looking at his teeth so may never manage! The idea was too cute though!
[img align=center]http://i.imgur.com/uNx4q0i.gif[/img]
Oh God I don't think I could ever brush my cats teeth, they'd probably kill me if I tried haha, I'd only be brushing gums now with Sidney, and the girls would hate me going inside their mouths with a toothbrush.
Aww Lenny. I had a pet lizard called Lenny once LOL
[tot=Jenni]
- OMG a cigarette? Haha cats are just so funny. My cats used to love worms when they were kittens, then they started bringing mice in, then small birds and then pigeons. The pigeons were about the same size as them lol. Haha yeah they sound so crunchy. Cats make a meal (pun lol) out of everything hehe.
