Okay, so I'm new to D&D, and I'm learning with some very good friends. My DM is my favorite person in the world, and he actually gave me a copy of the Player's Handbook (3.5 is what we're playing) so I could function without having to reference an annoying PDF every minute.

I'm playing an Elf (I'm not allowed to specify which kind because we're only going by base races and classes) who is a Druid. We are playing in the Forgotten Realms setting. So far, I have this for her character backstory:

Quote

Idril Lissësúl, an elven druid from the Star Mounts of the High Forest of Faerûn, began her journey at the young age of 26, when her parents were slaughtered in a night attack by orcs. With no family to speak of, and no definitive place to call home, Idril took to the forests and hills. On the rare occasions that she would venture into elven or human civilizations, she took to seeking out other druids. It is in this way that she learned much of her craft, and the few friends that she made proved to be invaluable across the years.

In truth, Idril preferred the company of nature to that of the civilized. She spent her nights under the stars and in the treetops, and always, she remembered her true home. In her teenage years, Idril dedicated much of her time to the worship of the Lady of Dreams, Sehanine Moonbow. She learned what she could from the fey beings she encountered in her travels, and when she found herself far from their settlements, she relied on her own kind and their knowledge of the Lady. With her newfound companionship with the stars, Idril found that isolation was much easier. She found peace in the night sky.

It wasn’t until her 113th year that Idril ventured out of the High Forest. Wanderlust had caught up with her, and no longer could she sate it with the forests and mountains she had grown up knowing. With nothing but what she could carry on her back and her faithful companion Náessë, a black-furred wolf, Idril set out to see the world and improve upon her skills as a druid.

Now as far as I can tell, elves and humans get along fairly well in Forgotten Realms lore, with the exception of the Drow, for obvious reasons. I also know that elves as a race are slow to trust those outside of their own race, but they also are that less likely to ever forget when someone has been a friend to them or their kind.

Now my druid has lived mostly on her own for her childhood and teenage years, with the exception of when she went through training to become a druid and when she had to go into settlements for whatever reasons.

Is it fair enough to say that she is wary of humans and rather untrusting of them in general? There are reasons that I have yet to explore entirely for being less trusting toward men, but that is neither here nor there. There are three elves in our party including her--two female and one male-- and two humans--both men. Is there anything that I should know regarding human-elf relations in D&D Forgotten Realms lore that would either legitimize or delegitimize this kind of attitude from a non-drow elf toward humans?

I just don't want to draw too heavily on Tolkien relations, because I know the dynamics between races are almost entirely different here (i.e. the dwarves and elves get along just fine, not all orcs are evil, etc), but when I know only a small amount of lore from what I can read on Wikipedia and in the Player Handbook, I tend to fall back on what I already know and end up getting all mixed up.

Is there anyone who is more familiar with the lore or who at least can point me in the right direction? If so, I'd very much appreciate the help.

Hi. I mostly play fourth edition (set a century later) but some of the lore probably applies. Is it reasonable to assume that even if wild elves don't exist as a separate type of elf in your campaign, their culture still exists? If so, you could assume that she comes from a society of wild elves, who tend to have a distrust for other cultures (viewing them as corrupted). That's just a possibility for explaining your character's views. If that doesn't work, here's the Realms wikia page on elves: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Elf
