I volunteer with with an amazing rescue group called Pit Bull Pride of Delaware (feel free to give us a like!). Two years ago today our spokesdog, Alfie, was rescue from death's door. He was left to die in a shed and was taken to a SPCA where he was given his death sentence. However, we had different plans for him. We went and pulled him and he was placed into foster care and was soon adopted by his foster mom, Sherry. Since then, he has become a therapy dog and makes friends every where he goes (both human and animal).
He is so vicious I mean, he just ate this kitten's face
Happy 2 year anniversary Alfiekins (my love name for him). You are an amazing dog and true ambassador to the breed.
[edit] And in case you are wondering, he has extremely kissable cheeks.
Omg what a precious babe.
I want a dog, .. I just have a fish.
There are plenty of shelters and rescue groups all over the place :). Some shelters even have free or really cheap adoption fees during certain times of the the year. If you have the means, maybe look into one.
Mom is not interested for now. We rescued the fish already, have to treat the poor thing for fins rot.
Oh my goodness, what a beautiful dog. I'm so happy to hear how his life has changed around for the better! That last picture...I think part of me just died. How adorable!!
I'm so happy things have worked out him him. And he is extremely photogenic
This makes me so incredibly happy. I love pit bulls, but they're so misunderstood because people choose to use them as fighting dogs. They are such love bugs. I'm so glad he's doing well and has a better life. :)
I want to adopt one eventually and get him registered as a service/therapy dog, also!
I love pits too. They are used as fighting dogs because they will do anything to please their owners. We think Alfie may have been a fighting dog because his front legs will tremble and the vet said it's from nerve damage. That's why I don't even believe in the saying, "It's all how they are raised." By saying that, Alfie should be a monster but he isn't. He loves every dog he meets and takes care of kittens, etc. Plus he just got into AI DuPont Children's Hospital to work as a therapy dog. That is a HUGE accomplishment.
I'm planning on doing the same thing with my future pits. There is a little girl in the rescue who I wish I could adopt but I don't have the means to care for her. She pulls at my heart strings with every picture.
smh people are so awful sometimes. I yell at my cat when he playfully attacks our chihuahua. How could someone encourage that crap? 😡
We once babysat my sister's boyfriend's pit bull. Oh gosh, talk about a big baby. She would jump up on the beds and couches and curl up under the blankets with you. She was actually scared of our pup XD What a little sweetheart.
But that's so exciting about Alfie! People like you restore my hope in humanity. :)
- That's an amazing story! I'm so happy Alfie has another chance at life and has a chance to bring joy to many people! :)
My sister has had several pit bulls. They've all been sweet. Her current one is always excited to see people and loves them unconditionally!
Very few things piss me off more than anger towards pits. Esp those who force them to fight. One of our major goals for the rescue group is to change the image of the pit bull into a positive one. I doubt will will convert everyone but it's worth a try.
My pit mix Anna is such a cuddle bug, she will try to climb inside you lol. All the pits that are in or have been in our rescue are extremely sweet and wouldn't hurt anything.
I love hearing about other people's sweet pits!
Have you ever seen Pitbulls and Parolees on Animal Planet? The woman who owns the shelter there is trying to do the same thing. :)
Awww!!!
The only marks you should ever leave on an animal are lipstick marks from kisses. Alfie looks to be so precious~

No I haven't. We don't have Animal Planet and it's too much of a hassle to pull it up online (I'm paranoid about downloading things). But I've heard nothing but good things about her.
I couldn't agree more with you. Alfie still has some scars but he looks like a completely different dog than he did 2 years ago. Everytime I see him, I kiss him nonstop on his cheeks lol
Awww, as all excellent dog moms should. -v-
