How are Calvin Blackmoon trading cards obtained besides buying them from other players? Can you get it from playing his card game?
You can't get it from his card game. If you win the game you earn 75,000 sP and nothing else.
The card's rarity is 150 which means that it was never released as an item you could buy from an NPC shop. In the past it may have been available in some way, but now you can only purchase it from user shops.

Thanks for the info. I still wonder how people got them in the first place.
I don't recall. There are many possibilities - like a trivia prize, a free gift, an event prize event - it might even have been given out for winning Card Crusade back in the day. I generally check SubetaLodge for that kind of info, but in this case the item is so old that SubetaLodge never had the info to track in the first place.

Yeah, I tried Subetalodge too, but I couldn't find anything. I'm hope someone out there knows how it was originally gotten. I'd like to know if there's another way to get it, but if nothing else, I'm just curious.
rares specials and retireds used to be randomly and with moderate rarity given from Major Drills quests, but either this feature has been removed or that particular quest grantor is broken. There's a thread about it in Problems & Bugs, but so far no staff has responded. That would have been the only way to get it "new". Right now, there is no other way to get this item.
Thanks! Do you know if it might be given through one of the vending machines?
nope, this would not be possible. Vending Machines have a rarity limit. Each Machine has special items that only it gives out, but these things are from a small pool of items and are known.
There really should be a way to get items like that which get used up by putting them in a collection. If eventually there's no way for people to get some of the items, why put them in the collections at all?
Nothing on Subeta is ever 100% retired (except for CWs, but that's really unrelated). If there are no more of an item available, or very few, they'll be released another way even if the way they came out originally is unavailable (e.g. if there's an item that was a trivia prize at one point). Staff will put it in the Token or Crystal Shop if nothing else
Good to know. I hope your right. I've been working on the plushies and cards and was starting to worry about availability of some of them. Thanks. :)
I put things in collections to show off that I can afford to do this, and because there's Achievements which are another kind of collection, so there are at least two reasons why someone might do that.
It's true that it's rare for subeta-created items to be permanently retired. But you may be waiting a few years.
I don't mind waiting. (lol I've been playing for years) I want to eventually get the have all the plushies in your collection achievement. I would hate to get down to just a couple left and never be able to get them.
I was in the middle of working on the Amy quest achievements when they (cough, cough) retired her. LOL I know Keith said he would never bring her back but I keep hoping he'll bring her back as a ghost or something just for a little while so I can finish the achievement. (yes, I know it's just wishful thinking)
Butting in again sorry xD Unfortunately I doubt they would bring Amy back running on the same achievements. Someone suggested an event with the Computer Geek quest NPC and I believe said that if they did do an event with him, it would be with a new achievement and not the Computer Geek one. So even if Amy came back you probably couldn't finish the acheivement :x
