Just a warning - this story may bother you, but if you are brave and/or curious then read on.
My family and I were on the way back from the lake, and then we saw a turtle on the side of the road. We didn't notice it was a turtle until my father pointed it out. My mother then insisted we turn around to make sure nobody runs over it since it was crossing the street. So, we drove back and thankfully people were slowing down for it. We were going to pick it up, but there was a lot of traffic. My father drove forward, but then my mother wanted to go get it because she was really worried that it might get run over. Sadly, when we drove back the turtle had been hit by a car, and the scene was so disturbing.
At that point I realized how much I love animals, and I started crying silently... it was just so sad. I know animals have to die at some point, and it happens often, but it made me angry that the little turtle couldn't make it across in time. :c
CC, does this kind of stuff make you sad, or is it just me?
-hugs you all over-
I saw a very similar scene when I was a lot younger (I am twenty now) and it was horrifying to see, so I know exactly how you feel! I am so sorry you had to witness something so terrible. :( It does make me terribly sad, plus turtles are adorable! I think it is perfectly normal to feel this way about something terrible like that happening.
It is very horrifying! I never thought I'd be so shaken up over it... Thank you for the reassurance. ^^
Trust me, you don't realize some of these things until they happen. That was years ago for me and when it comes up it still gets me feeling all horrible inside. You're welcome, I certainly hope you feel better, but don't feel strange for hurting over it. No one wants to see something like that happen to an innocent animal. QoQ
Especially a turtle! They are all slow and cute. ;A; It's mostly sad when you know you saw it alive moments ago. :c
I knooooow, turtles are the best! QuQ We actually owned one named Squirt when I was a kid! He was cuteness overload, because he would lean on the edge of his tank when you would hold a food pellet out to him, and just take it from your fingers! Adorable!
That's the hardest part, you just sit and wish you could have done something. :C
It used to make me really sad. After going through vet school and working I have learned to cope with it. It does not so much upset me anymore because I see injured animals almost everyday but none the less my heart still goes out to the poor things and I do everything I can to make them comfortable and help them.

Most likely it was run over on purpose. I read an article once about a college student that wanted to study human nature or something so he got a bunch of plastic turtles and put them in various places in the road. After he put one in the road he would move off to the side to watch cars pass by. The number of people who swerved to hit the turtle on purpose was astounding.
I was once on a two lane highway that was very rarely traveled when I saw a turtle in the road. I pulled over to move him onto the side of the road (I pulled my car very far off of the shoulder and into the grass). I was standing quite a distance away from the road, but directly across from the turtle when a truck came by and, looking me dead in the eye, swerved and smashed the turtle... he laughed as he drove on by. That was probably 10 years ago and I still remember how it hurt me that he did something like that intentionally not just to the turtle but also to me.
Ugh god, that's terrible; I'm sorry :( Hopefully whoever ran over the turtle did it as an accident and not on purpose, people who get a joyride out of that shit make me livid.
When I was 10 or so my useless meat-head of a father brought me along to slaughter two pigs who were old and paralyzed in the back legs. Needless to say it was a traumatizing experience for me and probably signaled my hatred for people abusing innocent animals. People here in hick-village are always super surprised when I get defensive about them laughing about "RUNNIN' OVER GROUNDSQUIRRELS W/ MY RIDIN' LAWNMOWER" but I don't give a shit. People who say crap like that sound psychotic(they probably are in all honesty) and they don't get a free pass from me
Stuff like this always makes me upset. I get really sad when I see roadkill on the road, especially if it's a baby animal.
I cried for like an hour one time when I thought my family had run over a squirrel when I was younger. And much more recently, I was driving and a tiny little bird flew in front of my car and I panicked because I thought I had hit it. Seriously, I almost got physically ill because I thought I'd killed an innocent little bird. Thankfully, I didn't, but still.
People who run over animals on purpose make me rage though. I don't get sad when that happens; I get SUPER angry. I pretty much turn into the Hulk. I'm really protective over animals. Probably more than I should be. /:
I saw a horrible thing not too long ago. Someone had hit a deer, a young doe by the looks of it, and although it was alive it was bleeding out quite badly. They'd dragged it to the side of the road because there was a big blood smear. It was horrid. I cried for a long time. I don't think he'd hit it on purpose though, at least, I'd like to think he didn't.
I've also seen a cat that someone had run over. This WAS on purpose because it was in the middle of the road and the... Well the way the "scene" looked was not natural. Horrid.
Poor turtle. RIP little guy.
-hugs you- ; A ; That would've disturbed me too. Did you at least name him? :D <3
; It's good that you have learned how to cope with those kind of experiences. Props to you for going to vets school, too. ^^ I've always wanted to have a career in that field, but I have bad allergies to dander. :c ; WHAT. My goodness. That really makes me sick... -hugs- I'm sorry you had to watch something like that happen... I am very grateful that I did not actually see the accident happen. D: Hopefully that jerk got some payback. People these days... they just don't appreciate life. ; I'm really hoping it was an accident as well, after learning that people get thrills out of it. I'm very sorry you had to watch such a thing because it is especially terrifying to hear pigs being slaughtered... There really is not excuse to abuse animals like the people you mentioned do. >:/ ; Same here. :c I would have panicked, too, if I were you. I'm glad there are still people like you who actually care about animals! I've heard people at my school talking about how "dogs/animals/etc. don't know anything" and blag blah blah. :/ ; Oh my goodness, that poor doe! Hopefully that wasn't on purpose... I guess it's good that they took it out of the road. I wouldn't put hitting the cat on purpose past anyone... crazy society. And yes, R.I.P. turtle. :c ; Aw, thanks. ^^ I was thinking of names... I thought maybe Trooper since he was so brave as to actually try and cross the street with those cars passing by. c:
Horrible, huh. People around here run cats over all the time, which is why my two aren't allowed out! (They can go out in the garden if I'm out in the garden though). Just horrible. I wish people like that didn't exist.
It's go that you take precautions with your kitties. ^-^ Cats are too precious to get treated that way~ Speaking of cats, I really like the art in your siggy. c:
Yeah, I'd hate for them to be hurt by anyone, especially since they are adopted from neglect.
I do too! It was a mystery gift over the christmas period. :)
Yup, happens to me all the time when I see a dead animal on the street. Happens sometimes to a cat, hedgehog or fox. And I'm always so sorry for them. Though what really shocks me is when animals run in front of my car. I nearly hit a dog once (gosh, I was shaking after that) and several cats. Once a dog actually ran out of a bush into my car but I was able to slow down so he was fine and just hit his head a little bit.
I love animals and if I were to ever hit one, I think I'd cry for days. I would feel awful. I don't even like seeing dead animals on the road :'c
I was in the car with my partner and we hit a bird on the way home, busy highway, it flew under a tunnel and right into our windshield :( I turned around and saw it spiral off to the side of the road..I cried for about 30 minutes, it felt awful.
And I've seen a brood of ducklings hit and thrown into the air on a busy highway..
