I'm a 21, soon to be 22, year old college student who has finally come to terms that she has to do adult things now. I was thinking about getting a credit card, so I could actually start building up some credit. I'm pretty good with money, so I'm not too worried about going crazy with it. I was looking around and saw some student credit cards that have no annual fee and I was thinking about getting one of those. Any advice for a n00b adult? :P

I think getting a credit card is a really good idea as long as you understand how they work and don't go over the limit and pay it back. I pay back the full amount every month, and have built up pretty good credit. Another thing that I never knew was that if you apply for credit cards often (store cards for example), it lowers your score. It's also good not to get close to your credit limit, and to keep cards open for a long time rather than closing them every time you don't want to use them anymore.

That's really good advice! I never knew that some of those things can lower your credit score, so thanks for letting me know. :)

Which one do you have, if you don't mind me asking? I was looking at some through CapitalOne and I think the one I'm leading towards is with Discover.

Don't go with capitalone, if you do default with them, they are horrible to work with...

I would start with a Visa or Mastercard rather than discover as well

Don't go with Capital One. They ask, "What's in your wallet?"

The answer, if you go with them, is "Their hand, taking your money." Their interest rates suck.

Lean towards Visa or Mastercard.
