So I need some help with dying my hair. I want a really deep but bright red, like if you look up splat crimson obsession, I want that color. I have been dying my hair with splat purple dyes and I like it a lot, it takes a long time to fade and shows up bright on top of my hair without bleaching (I have medium brown hair). However I don't exactly want to use splat again because it literally never stops physically washing out no matter how long it's been since you dyed it. I want to go swimming this summer (yes I know chlorine is bad for hair dye) and don't want it to look like I have a cloud of my period following me everywhere. Can anyone recommend to me any dyes that will get me that dark reddish color (an unnatural red but not a firetruck red) that won't consistantly wash out forever and ever and ever?? I just tried dying it with I believe ion dye, burgundy blonde or something, and it just mixed with the purple and made a brownish color. Which is good, I guess, since I have an interview on Wednesday. But yeah. Any help would be appreciated. I am looking for a dye that I can just do on my natural hair color and NOT bleach.
I know theres certain red dyes that have a special ammonia in them that will work, heres a video about it :) I know theres another about it but i havent found it yet. its almost got a lifter in the red dye itself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtS3WMJJvYs
Searching for :)
Chlorine will strip the color right out of your hair, as with any semi-permanent dye. Red is the worst because it fades the fastest of any other color. I've always used punky color but like I said.. red fades the fastest, and chlorine will almost immediately strip semi-permanent color from your hair. :(
Are you only looking at semi-permanent dyes? I've been dying my hair red for over 12 years now with various types/brands of permanent dyes, in various shades of red (even the bright shades you've described, although lately I've been sticking to a more natural-looking shade), and I've never had problems with it washing out like that.
Two summers ago I dyed my hair with Ion Color Brilliance in Medium Red Blonde (permanent) and put La Riche Directions Hair Colour - Rubine (semi-permanent) on top of it. My hair is usually a medium to dark brown color. This has definitely been my favorite combo so far but if you want it darker I don't suggest leaving it in longer than needed. It was dark in the house but in sunlight O M G anime red xD
This is how it looked right after dying it in June 2012 (The wall was white so the color is probably a bit off) This was July 2012 out in the sun I'm not sure which one is more correct but considering how dark it was in the house I'd say a mix between these two shades lol This is how it looked in September 2012
Hope this helps! Also suggested is putting some of the semi perm hair dye in your conditioner to keep the color in.
Also this video may be helpful to you. It's what I based my hair color on except I used a different semi-perm dye.
I am looking for permanent preferrably. The purple and funky colors I've used have all been semi permanent, and what I liked about them is how well they worked but as I said I didn't like how they faded out. Any recommendation for what kind of dye I should use for kind of a deep but bright red?
That is exactly the color I'm going for, I think! Like, not a crazy bright firetruck red, but not exactly a natural red either... So your semi perm... how many washes did it take to stop leaking out red? Like, physically leaking out and making it look like you were bleeding everywhere.
TBH I only wash my hair usually twice a week so I never really kept count of how many washes. I can tell you it kept it's color that way for a good 3 months at least and I didn't do the hair dye in the conditioner thing. As for getting the initial 'bleeding' of it out I think I actually did that when I was dying my hair and rinsed it quite a few times until the red wasn't coming out anymore xD
Okay, good to know... it sounds like from what you're saying it isn't like my crazy purple dye that literally still bleeds after 3 months of not redying. Lol
no xD I think La Riche Direction is pretty good about not bleeding like crazy, actually. My friend dyed some of her hair a tealish color and it lasted for months as well.
Alright thankyou, I am definitely going to try this! But one more question... So I dyed my hair with the Ion dye, burgundy blonde or something like that... it is now kind of a reddish, brownish, purplish color. Do you think I need to redye it with the ion color you did before doing the semi, or do you think I could just do the semi on top? My hair with just the ion is definitely not like a RED red... but it has... reddish hues. When you did the permanent was it a pretty noticeable red?
I think the picture from September I showed you is more of the ion red than the La Riche. I do believe that was the point of when it was starting to wear off a bit (end of the September I think it was) and it was just the Ion showing through. Do you have a picture of what your hair looks like now?
Eh, ok, that kinda answers my question actually. This hair color on it's own is really not red like your last picture. I think I will dye it the red you used in a few weeks when my hair is done being mad at me
Alrighty :) And just a tip, if you ever want to go for a dark purple after red.. go to someone to strip the red off = I tried a purple and it just came out red again I was just like grrr lol So I'm waiting until I can afford it to go get my hair dyed either purple, a mix of red/purples, or a red to blonde ombre thing xD Hopefully I'll have made my choice by the time I can afford it :3
