I have almost 3 months left of GA. If I auto-freeze my account, whenever I decide to unfreeze it, will my GA countdown be the same as the day I disabled the account?

You may need to file a ticket to get an official answer, but I am fairly certain you can not pause Gold Accounts, they will still continue to expire.

I think it has to do with preventing people from only using the GA on certain days [like wsq ]

I want to say is correct and that a gold account will continue to countdown despite the status of the account. Otherwise, people could get 2 months or so worth of gold and only use it around holidays while disabling their account the rest of the year.
