Subeta's adoption center, like just about every other pet site I've personally played, only shows random results. I've always found this strange since I feel like Subeta has always encouraged us to focus on aspects of our pets that are different from what other pet sites might focus on. If I'm looking for a pet with an Earthy feel to her name, I'm not going to adopt TesssstPet341, the Galactic Kumos, no matter how many times he shows up in ten minutes. Most people here wouldn't because it's atypical for a pet's color and species to be considered more valuable than its name on this site. However, when the pets are randomized, I'm a lot more likely to just give up and create something before hoping to see even a fraction of the near 4000 pets that are in there now. I'm sure a lot of users feel the same way which results in a lot of wasted potential.

What I'm suggesting is making both the specific colors/species search and the general ARU browsing page have results that aren't being randomized. These would obviously be separated into pages that you can navigate through like a thread on the forums (because I don't really want to imagine a page that has to load several thousand pet images). Right now even the number of results you get from the color/species search is limited to 15, and they're randomized, which makes it pretty difficult and tedious to see all the pets in ARU.

We've had the transfer system for a while now so there's very little need to worry about your pet being seen and scooped up in the few seconds that it takes your friend to adopt them. Maybe for those who do still occasionally use ARU for transferring pets, the navigation order could be based off of something other than the most recently pounded pets showing up on the first or last page.

Thoughts?

tl;dr: Stop randomizing the pets in Adopt-R-Us because it makes it impossible to find what you're looking for.

I seem to have lost the link, but there is a Search for Adopt-R-Us page which does most of this.

If you need something more specific, you should make it yourself.

there is a search feature already in place :) At the top there's a link to do a search on a name including, species, or color.

The randomization is unhelpful, a random order is okay so long as it does not change (ie: it is page to page).

And yes, there is a search feature... that is dreadfully outdated.

I made some suggestions here, along with others, about possible things the site could do to improve the adoption centre.

Expanding the # of pets we can view per page on both the main and search feature. The search feature should be more prominent. Experiments should all be on one page. Pets/Colours unobtainable by the adoption centre should be unlisted. The colours/pet species should be listed by alphabetical order in the search drop down thing as well. I would also add a little something under the petname that shows the ID number/date of creation since people like that sort of thing.

Other people mentioned other interesting ideas like having a recently pounded page, being able to choose how many pets you can view per page. I'm not a fan of the recently pounded page, I would probably prefer the reverse to get older pets out. Choosing how many pets you want to view is a great idea. And I should probably admit that I do retract my pet rating suggestion from the thread.

Also, the adoption centre should be purged eventually. 4k pets is madness.

I actually mentioned that feature already in my post, sorry if it was confusing. I already know it exists though (in fact I use it frequently) and I'm not suggesting anything like that.

The search feature will only show a max of 15 results at a time, and they're random. There are more than 15 common kumos in the adoption center, so even when you search specifically for a common kumos, you have no idea if you're actually seeing all of them- even after repeating the search several times.

My suggestion is to remove both the limit on and the randomization of the results.

Yesss I agree with all of that. Except it would be nice if the adoption center wasn't purged without some changes being made first. idk, there's a lot of decent pets in there, it's just.. really difficult to find them. |D I'm kind of an ID person myself and I think it would suck to have something deleted that can't be recreated.

That's a good point, they should allow for at least 2 weeks notice before they do any sort of purge. Hopefully after they revamp the adoption centre... they could even announce the revamp and deadline in one of their email newsletters(along with other stuff, ofc).

One thing I'd love to see in Adopt-R-Us? The ability to search for Male or Female pets. I'm sick of trawling through pages and pages of pets randomly, hoping to find a pretty female name and finding I'm only getting males :(

I must be missing something ... I have never seen a search bar on the Adopt R Us page. Also on my page there are only 12 pets per page.

That's what the is for. And it's cheap.

I never frequent ARU but I can see this being really helpful for people that do.

At the top of the Adopt R Us page https://subeta.net/explore/adopt.php there is some text and the second sentence within that text says: "Feel free to search around if you have something specific in mind that you'd like to take home."

If you click on search(both on the Adopt R Us page itself or in the sentence above), it's a link and it takes you to a page where you can search. It took me a while to notice it too, but I was glad when I finally did.

I would seriously love this. Subeta even says when you get a new pet slot that you should think about adopting one instead of creating it. But they make adopting super hard. D8 :unheart: I have found that if you're looking for a specific pet you can make sure you see all of them by doing the species and color. It helps a lot, but ultimately there will always be a LOT of common pets, so even then it gets harder.

I would love to see a page-type thing introduced. Where you have 20-or-so pets per page with however many pages it needs. I feel like that's still nice and tedious, but lets you see every pet available.

Also? I would love if when I look up a pet and I see that its user isn't found? If there was a link to the damn adopt page. But that's mainly laziness on my part.

No, I mean for example, finding a heap of male named pets. IE, (pulling random names here) 'Jack', 'Ryan', 'Toby'. They are not female names .. xD I'd rather have the search option so I could find 'Jessica', 'Lola', 'June' etc. (Though obviously these names wont be in the pound, or at least it's highly unlikely XD)

It would be nice if we could have an expanded search function.

eg. "Search By Oldest", "Sort by Creation Date" (from 2010,2011 or whatever).

That kind of thing. People seem to be really into pet IDs so maybe it could be made easier to find low ID pets?

IDK how I feel about this. The randomization kind of makes it more fair to players in a sense because it's not just whoever decides to click the recently pounded page first and stalk it all day. Unless there's a limit that you can only adopt one pet per 24 hours or something. Because the way I see it, it'll be just be hoarders taking all the good ones.

I like this idea for if you do the searching for a specific color/species. What if it was like a click to scroll over set up now though? Like you want to see all chibi pets and there's 36 but if each page showed 10, then you clicked to scroll to the next set of 10 you could see all available to adopt in chibi that way and it might make coding easier as would scanning the results...

They could also do this for the first page you went to as well. You'd still see random set up pets but would scroll through them rather than refresh all the time. So then no matter if you were random browsing or specific searching it'd be easy to know you saw "new" pets every page scroll.

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.

I love all of this, but I think that has a point with the adoption limit and hoarders. I am also pretty in love with 's idea with having a link to the adoption page if it says a pet has no owner.
