Well, last night the Eurovision Contest was celebrated in Denmark and, for those who may not know, Austrian singer Conchita Wurst has won the competition with Rise Like a Phoenix. There has been a lot of things going on this year: the Internet phenomenon caused by the singer's bearded face, the great variety of styles (related to fashion, not so much to music) and a bomb of controversy for Russia, with the audience booing the country as a means of protest against Putin's anti-gay laws. What do you guys think? Come and discuss as much as you like.
Friendly Pings
I have to say, that I had some issues with Eurovision this year. Even though I haven't seen it in 2011 and 2012, I'm a huge fan and... oh well. I don't have any problem with Conchita's victory, even though I'm not sure if she would have made it if she didn't have a beard (the song was OK, the vocals were strong and clear, I guess, and everything looked fabulous), but I have mixed feelings about the voting system. I mean, I think it's really unfair that, for example, a lot of people in Ireland voted for Poland but the judges gave Cleo the last (or something like that) place and it resulted in 0 points for Poland from Ireland. I mean, I think it's nice that there are also some professionalists voting, but it made the voters, like, lose a lot of money for nothing? Couldn't the points from voters and jury be separate, or something? I don't know. And I have a problem with all this "love, freedom, equality, yay!" thing (mostly from Conchita's fans, it seems) and at the same time Russian girls being booed (OK, I know that it was Putin booed in fact, and I don't know if I haven't seen them saying something good about him, but still...) or girls from Poland called women of loose morals in some comments on YT. But I guess I should be used to hypocrisy at this point. Oh, one more thing: I love Sebalter. Absolutely.
Since Russia was absolutle against Austria and they said something like they don't even want to be on the same stage as Conchita was, it is (for me) understandable that many people will not sympathise with Russia and therefore since the russian singers were representing Russia they booed them out (since they couldn't boo Putin out) I myself am from Austria and I heared some pretty crapty s**t from russians talking about Conchita and us Austrians. She was brave enough to do this and she nearly got sent to the ESC in 2012 too. That time people were also like "oh no, don'T send a women with a beard to the ESC what will people think about us!!!" Instead we sent Lukas Plöchl, who sang in upper austrian dialect so nearly nobody really understood him T_T
