I'm fairly certain the shop remains, but tokens disappear from active circulation as quest rewards.

stated in the comments for that News post that:

She also told another user that the tokens would be removed from quests "In the evening on the 7th!"...

I think her word is pretty official on this topic... Though I do think it was posted on the same day as the News post so it is possible plans have changed. -shrugs-
