I'm getting rather tired of the page taking forever to load because people can't upload to fast image hosts like imgur or because they have some oversized gif or chibi drawing in their forum text. I'd much rather just be able to see the post and maybe their signature but the forum text feature has become quite a bane on my forum experience.

Can we please have the option to hide just images forum texts?

Reasons why we need this:

  • Photo-sensitivity to quick moving gifs
  • Faster loading time on both browsers and mobile
  • Adblock will not block everything
  • We should have to download third party software
  • Convenience to users

Reasons why turning off full forum features doesn't work:

  • Turns off font alignment/color scheme
  • Also removes signatures
  • Removes leashed pets

Reasons why AdBlock isn't an option:

  • Problematic software
  • Causes lag while browsing
  • Renders some sites useless even after whitelisting
  • Doesn't block images forever, images returning often
  • Will not prevent rotating images
  • Not convenient for users who have to manually block each image they come across

Do one or both of these options do what you want? Under preferences->options. Show Full Avatars in Forums Enable :: Disable Show Full Forums Enable :: Disable

I already have full avatars disabled. As for the second option... Yes, it does achieve what I want but now I can't see customized forum text. I just want the images disabled, not the font colors or alignment. :(

Since options already exist for this type of thing I wouldn't support refining it further. I would recommend you download something like adblock and then you can block all images from these "slow image sites" and individually block other annoying images and/or users who use them.

Fine then, don't.

[edit]Because one has already mistaken this, I'll leave this as a disclaimer. I'm not being rude here, just finite and to the point. Don't support my idea? Okay, fine, nothing I can do about that but I'm not sure how else to respond other than "Fine then, don't." I guess I won't respond to anyone else who doesn't agree from now on. :(

- I like your idea. I like to be able to see the different fonts and colors, but a bunch of images, especially the movie-type ones drive me crazy.

No need to be rude.

I wouldn't mind an ability to disable images in forumtext, if people want that. Normally I just adblock images that are problematic (such as ones that flash too much or are otherwise annoying), so there's always that if disabling images doesn't become an option.

How was I rude? I'm not going to argue with lypsyl. If she doesn't want to support my idea, fine. I can't change her mind on the matter.

As for adblock, I don't use it. I use simple adblock instead since the other gave me problems on other sites that no amount of rearrangement of settings could fix, so yeah, it would be good for me if Subeta could just filter the images for me.

Thanks.

said she wouldn't support your suggestion, which is fine. Not everyone will agree with your suggestion. Your post came off as rude. Sorry if that's not how you meant it to be. When someone replies to another user's post with, "Fine then, don't," it seems rude.

If blocking images doesn't become an option, you should try using Adblock. Once you've blocked an image it stays blocked. You'll have to spend some time adding images to it, but once you've got it set up it might help with the lag.

You mean... I'm not alone?! ;A; Everyone in life keeps recommending it to me and I'm like "but it doesn't woorrrrrk!" or "It breaks this site and that site, even when white listed" and instead of taking that to heart, they blame me next. "Well what did you do to it?" :(

Not my intention at all. I was actually trying to be neutral on the matter. XD; (This happens IRL too. I'm trying to be non-combative and people still get ready for a fight. T_T When did "Fine" become the newest four letter word? D: ) As for adblock, I've listed reasons why it doesn't work for me above. It's just problematic. Simple Adblock works better but it doesn't come with an image block feature.

Sorry! D: I've just seen way too many posts that are worded similarly where the user was trying to be rude. I'm sorry I misinterpreted. :c

I'm kind of confused by what you've said about Adblock. I've never had a problem with it in the past. There's prompts that ask you if you want to block everything from a domain or just that one image, so I always choose just the one image that I've selected.

If you don't want to use Adblock, though, there's no other option that I know of except to not use full forums. :c

- For me, AdBlock just slows everything down a ton. So a laggy Subeta becomes an unusable Subeta.

Omg I had that too. XD It just slipped my mind because it's been forever and a half since I used it last. How recent have your problems been? If it's been a year or more, maybe we should give these programs a second chance.

It's okay. ❤ I can see why people would react the way you did so I left a little disclaimer for anyone else passing by. And I know, I have the weirdest, most evil of problems with my computer.

For example: It had to be reformatted four times in 2012 alone. Half because of Avast and half because of WildTagnet games. D: Two programs that shouldn't have buggered my HD at all and yet each time I got infected with something or the programs just would bog the computer down a ton and the RAM was maxed upon the second reformatting. Even the programmers are like, "What are you doing?" and I'm like, "Just trying to have fun..."

- My problems started around June of this year. I have no idea what the problem was, but everything works sooooo much better without AdBlock, even though I now have to deal with all the crappy images and ads.

O_O That is really, really weird. I've never heard of problems like that from using those programs!

I did some searching and there's an addon for Firefox called "Image Blocker" that might help. You can choose which images to block, just like with adblock but it won't touch the ads. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like it might work.

Try SimpleAdblock. It's a whole different program that's lighter and simpler to use.

I KNOW! I'm one of the 2% of people who get possessed machinery. XD I'm a chrome user. XD But thanks so much for going to all the trouble to help out! :3 I'll take a look in Chromes app store to see what addons there are. ^^

throws holy water on your computer :p Oh, no problem! I do hope that the staff will consider having a "disable images in forumtext" option because sometimes they can be really annoying, but if it doesn't happen then I hope there'll be good options for users.

I haven't seen any good sounding ones for Chrome yet. X: They all seem to still load images in the background so they wouldn't help, they're more just for parental control.

There's already a limit of a 5mb on gifs. Anything that exceeds that should really, technically be reported for being oversized. I see no reason for this.

So I'm not the only one who has problems with ad-block! :o I still have no idea what I blocked on here to completely bork imageshack. I have to switch to Opera whenever I have an image I wish to view.

The one thing I would love the most is the ability to see the special forum titles without having to turn full forums back on. I hate seeing all the gifs and annoying to me images.
