I told him that I cheated. He was more hurt than angry, which surprised me...we've talked a lot since I confessed and we both want to work this out. We just aren't going to be as intense as before and we are each going to work on our own faults. If that does not work then we both agreed it would be best to leave it alone.

You two have got a lot of stuff to work through (not just that you cheated, but what led you to cheat as well). You can make it work, and fix things (eventually) if you try hard enough, and you're both willing to put the past behind you.
