Are those where you get the backgrounds for your avatars or is that something else?

Booster packs contain trading cards. If you open them, you'll get some random cards.

Backgrounds for your avatars are located in the backdrop layer in your wardrobe. If you select "all clothing on subeta" and then the backdrop layer, you get an overview of all backdrop/background items.
