Ok so, everyone has to do it eventually. As much as I'd love to just go live with my dad instead I'm moving into a house with my boyfriend. Yaay for area full of rentals.
Back on topic though, for those of you that have moved out, how was your first apartment/dorm/house?
I think I'm being picky about it myself. ❤
My first apartment was nothing special, really. It was in an apartment complex, basic security measures (locked front door, intercom), 2 bedrooms (one of which we used as an office), kitchen, living room and bathroom. It was on the second floor.
What we didn't have was furniture. We each had a bed, and that was it (weird, huh). We sat on the floor to eat and watch TV for the first week. We bought our first sofa for $10, and it was this furry, massive, old chocolate-brown monstrosity that looked like crap (and it was super old, it was probably made in the 70's). But, it was big enough for the two of us, and it was comfortable. We got the rest of our stuff from garage sales and second-hand stores. We were pretty poor.
We did buy a new kitchen table set, which set us back a bunch of cash, and it looked totally out of place with the rest of our crap furniture.
I'm thinking back on all this, and laughing. We were poor, we didn't have a lot, but we have some good memories. :)
I really like my current apartment, it's sorta my second since i paid rent in my sister's for a while last summer instead of going home.
but it's pretty nice, i get my own room and bathroom and i can do whatever the balls i want which is nice, including buying $3 gummi snacks just because :P
the kitchen's basically a hallway, the cold water in my shower doesn't work, and it costs an arm and a leg for the washer and dryer, plus the management is idiotic.
but really, it's all worth it to be on my own.
I think its good to be picky about your first place :) Chances are you might stay there for more than one year (packing and unpacking only to move again can get old fast)
Our first place was okay.. For like about a week lol.. The we realized the people beneath us were dealing drugs..and the bathroom had black mold.. Next place we picked has worked out fabulous (have been here for three years), and its actually cheaper than our first place (plus is in a safe neighborhood, has a gym, pool, and a pretty lake where cranes raise their chicks). So take your time dear and good luck!
i lived in 3 different apartments when i was away for college for 2 years
i wasn't allowed to be picky, cause money/rent was making the rules but all 3 places were actually very nice
i liked the last one the best, though it was so cute, everything was small and made for one and i actually never did have a problem with living by myself
I've only moved once, and that was to China for half a year. It was a pretty big three-room apartment for the two of us plus double balconies and no source of heat. It also came with a non-working kitchen and bars across some of the windows :) several spiders that refused to leave and a few realllllly ugly porcelaine pig figurines.
Take your time deciding where to move :) you're gonna stay there for a while, so make sure both you and your boyfriend are happy with it before picking one.
THEY CAN'T BREAK YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SPINE
The biggest problem right now is that everywhere I love, he hates. And everywhere he hates, well I love. We're very different people social-wise. We've been looking at places with roommates too, and he loves the eccentric craziness, whereas I like peace and quiet.
Our first apartment.. was AWFUL. The kitchen was teeny, half the burners n the stove didn't work, the fridge would randomly turn off, there were apparently ants that weren't our fault, they came out every year, the shower was TEENY, and it was really DARK in there.. honest, it terrified me, so I made Alex come in with me everytime, even though it meant I had to be like, a contortionist to shave my legs lol
I WANT to move out but money and job problem (I don't has any) I ish kept in me house.
I work as a maid. It's godawful and the pay sucks but it's one of the few jobs a 17 year old student can get around here. I'm not bitchy enough to be a Barista. :(
OMG my first house... It was so small. And gross. We worked really hard at making it a home. But then we saved up enough to get out of that rat hole and buy our first home. Now it really is great. Congrats on moving out!
