Do you need to buy both or just one?

You can buy just one. It will work better if you have both. :)

If you buy only the Trap, you have a 50% chance of getting the item. Only the Repellant will give you 25%. Both will give you 75% of getting the item (although some people say 100% but that doesn't work percentage-wise).

I have both lizard items and I always, always get the item 100 percent of the time.

I have both and got every item when lizards got trapped

So are people still getting lizard random events? I've not had one for months...
