You should punch/kick the dog to make it let loose. Wouldn't want the little dog to die, but you also shouldn't kill the older dog.

If the old dog had already let go of the pup, then you shouldn't kick it. That'd be cruel.

In any case, don't let a young dog near older dogs.

Not saying all big unknown dogs will attack puppies, but it is better to be safe until ur dog is a little stronger.

Seems like the other owner didn't do a whole lot to stop it, so you were well within your rights to protect your puppy.

Poor thing. :(

I can't say that I blaim you. You didn't deliver the kick out of malice or some twisted version of 'fun'-you did it to protect your own dog, who wouldn't have stood a chance against her attacker.

And if the other owner decides to be a prick and presses charges, just point ouit to the judge that you had two options, either watch your puppy get torn to shreads or take action. They'll rule in your favor everytime.

I don't think you're cruel. You did whatever was necessary to get that big dog off your puppy. I would have done the same and I love dogs.

I live in an area where people seem to think it's fine to let their dogs wander all over the place, so when I go out with my dog for his walks I always grab something to take with me. I will not let one of those dogs hurt mine. He's my baby(which is why I have a video of him on my profile). :P

I don't think I could seriously injure any animal, but I have no problem defending my own. He does seem to have issues with puppies though. He has a fairly high prey drive, so I think he views them as food, so we stay far away from any small pups, because that's the responsible thing to do.

[edit] Your puppy is adorable, by the way!

She's adorable <3

But anyway, I probably would've done the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, and animals in general, but kicking a full grown dog in the face to save my new little puppy is so worth it. And you probably can't get in trouble for doing it either, because you did what you had to to get that dog off of your pup.

Is she okay though?

I would seperate the dogs, whatever it took, unless I'd have to kill the other dog. I'd kick the attacking dog, I'd punch the attacking dog, not too hard but enough to make it get off. And if I saw my puppy getting killed or eaten...I'd probably throw up and sob.
