I am sincerely debating this, but I am thinking about getting a table in Gallery Momiji at Anime North this year. There is still space.

However, when I pitched my idea to get a table to a girl who is also going to Anime North, she basically told me to not even try. I honestly think I have what it takes.

These are example of what my art would be like (although, I would like to say I switch up my styles alot. So some are just thrown in here for coloring): Style Example 1 Color Example 1 Style Example 2

This is probably the style that will be seen the most. Now I admit, I'm not the queen of art but I definitely think I have what it takes. However, all the stuff I'd be selling would be one of a kind or only 3 prints would be made.

Am I out of my mind or am not as crazy as I think I am? You decide. I would just like some input. :)

wow. I think you're an AMAZING artist! I think to try is definitely worth a shot. I know it's cliche, but you never know till you try ;)

I'm taking everyones thought into account.

This is why I'd want to the gallery more than the actual artist alley table. Because I don't have to print as many prints and I only have to do one of each thing. If I can't sell it there, I can save it for next year for a smaller con.

i never was on Anime North... (at least i doubt since i believe to live in a totally different country) but i don't see why your art shouldn't be shown.

might still need some work, esp what i've see of your shading, and your last example looks a bit as you you din't put any effort into it (not meaning it looks bad, it just looks... like done in 10 minutes, probably wouldn't pay much for that as buyer) esp like Style Example 2. looks less messy but still sketchy. ^^

i guess you'll have to pay something for a table? if you think it's worth the money (assuming you might not sell enough to get the spent money back), just go for it! see for yourself if you have what it takes for that event or if that other girl just does not want to get another rival. (assuming that other one is artist too)

edit: dang, typed too long *lol

Ah, I did forget to mention 3 of the examples are meant to be sketchy. It's just my style. But it'd be a more refined line and style for prints. I just at the moment don't have any great lineart pieces that are from atleast the end of 2008.

Well, I'd only be paying 3.50 american for a table. I'd only pay for 1/4 of a table. XD I wouldn't loose too much.

I'm going to have to agree with Xellis for the time being. Your art, while it is adorable, especially the chibis (OH GREECE <3 Ahem.), doesn't seem to have a lot of effort put into it. I'm not trying to be offensive, but I think you can put a bit more work into your pictures.

But if you want my true and honest opinion, then please don't take me as rude or mean. Truth is often cold and hard, but it's the truth nevertheless, and I believe that is what you asked for. And do note that I am only speaking upon your examples, so if there are any other things in your gallery that may object to my statements, then go ahead and correct me. Anyhow, I find that there is little detail among most of your pictures, and the neatness overall is just a tad bit lacking. I think that neatness is one of the major things people look for, unless you want it to go a certain style, such as oil painting or something of the sort. That is understandable, but the sketchiness of the lines aren't too appealing to most eyes. And then there is the problem of anatomy and contrasting colors. If I judge from my taste in art, then I'd have to say that you don't seem to have a defined light source in your coloring example, and practically little shading that shows the wrinkles in clothing, deep shadows in skin and other areas, especially in the hair. I would really suggest taking a look at some more tutorials, or checking out some color theory books and anatomy studies sometime. It can really help you get your art to top notch, and it should improve a lot of things, so I think you might want to consider that before jumping into the Gallery.

But as that is only my opinion, and I can't control your actions in any way or another, you are free to do whatever you like. As Cherish said, you really don't know what will happen unless you try, so don't let anybody get you down~ (especially me D8) I'm not that great of an artist, so I can be completely off in most of my knowledge, and I have absolutely zero experience at conventions, so go out and do your thing whenever you like!

(Lol if this is late and something has been said before me, then my apologies~) ----EDIT---- LOL; I can't believe I spent nearly 20 minutes trying to type this thing up. Oh geez. If the sketchiness your style for the time being, then that's fine for the most part. Although, try not to use it as an excuse to be lazy or something of the sort. I'm not saying that you are, but it's rather common in the art communities, and I frown upon that kind of attitude that some people may take on. Best of luck to you~

Ah, no I don't take it as an offense at all. I actually do have stuff that is more refined but its older stuff that I'm not as proud of.

Now, this is work that was done for a Petsite a year ago. Lithium Coco

This is a recent lineart piece, but this is specifically meant to be put on a t-shirt. XD

I'm not proud of it. Honestly, I'm not.

I'd rather hear truth than be told sugar coated lies. That's how I feel. But the sketchy style is for the most part my style of art. It's not done for laziness but for the feel of my art. XD

(Sorry, non-sugar coated thoughts here)

If I'm going to AN this year (which I might, since I'm about 3 hrs away from Toronto) and saw this at gallery, I will not be tempted to buy it, at all. People at the convention are looking for high quality prints and fan-made merchandise.

To be honest, I'd rather get something from Lithium Coco or the lineart piece for the t-shirt, if it came down as I'm forced to buy between the three. While the lineart's 'clean' per say, the coloring/shading is too elementary to sell/display at the gallery. (I'm talking about the Prussia example, jajaja, oh Prussia). If you're going to attempt to put them up for display + sell 'em, I think working on the shading techniques will be needed (Lithium Coco's shading is getting there, somewhat). The chibi's fine, but it could use more..refinements w/ little details (ie the hands).

So, ^ what they said above; I really do not recommend you selling these this year unless you can dramatically improve in like less than 2 weeks x:

I have to agree with most of the others. Honestly, while your art is nice, I don't think it's cut out for serious business like what's expected at places like AN.

But regardless of saying WHY NOT, I'm going to say what I think you should work on so you can get better and maybe go in the future.

  • Human anatomy: While it's pretty good in your chibi images, there are still one of two flaws here and there that aren't too hard to notice. And although not everyone is insensitive to the idea, I suggest drawing a TON of figured that are nude (without genitalia). Even really good artists here on Subeta still have trouble with anatomy (including myself, though I'm not a 'really good artist' xD) I also really suggest working on hands. I know they're the devil. C:

-Clothing: Get in the habit of adding more details, such as wrinkles and creases. Tight of baggy, no clothing article is so tight that it remains completely ironed out. Also, it really helps to add to details by adding textures. Some fabric has a large grain than others, etc.

-Shading: Another thing on details. While adding a shadow to one side of everything is quite nice, adding the proper shadows to everything is better. Maybe you want to try different shading styles, such as cell shading, or halftones. ETC. Even your animal for the pet site has as little shading as possible on it. You could get much more in depth with detail and textures than that, no problem. C:

I will add though, your hand writing is very nice, and I do think that with a good amount of more practice, you could totally do amazing things C: Perhaps not this year, but that doesn't mean not ever.
