How do you feed these things? I have the items but I keep getting an error that I do not have the wanted items.

the trapped minions sometimes change every few seconds, so it may be that you're taking too long to feed it, you have to be quite quick :)
If someone would fed it first you would get the message - "its been fed alreeady" or something like that, can't remember the exact words. The only other possibility I can think of is that you are trying to feed it the wrong flavour - i.e. it asks for Apple gummy lips, and you tried to feed it lemon gummy lips.

no, i tried two different ones, got exactly what it wanted word for word and i got the message that i did not have the item it wanted in my inventory. i even double checked on one to make sure.

I've gotten that message when I am too slow and the minions switch over while I am buying the item. Sometimes they switch even if they haven't been fed, and instead of feeding the minion you clicked, you end up trying to feed the minion that took it's place. Have you refreshed just before clicking the minion you are trying to feed? It may be (like said) that it disappeared on you :(
