Greetings. My name is Jeremy Smallwood, I&;m a lieutenant at Dauntless Hook and Ladder Company in Selinsgrove. Our guys were on the ladder on Tuesday when you filmed the fire in Sunbury. Thank you for the fantastic footage. Those guys found themselves in a rapidly deteriorating situation, and as you could see they had to escape quickly. Your video will help us train for the future to understand safe ladder practices, and how quickly the fire ground can change for the worse.

For your own peace of mind, as dramatic as the scene was they are just fine. They took full precautions before they went up the ladder. They wore full protective gear, and they were breathing air out of their tanks. The gear is designed to withstand direct flame contact for short periods of time, and in this case it protected them. Had they been on the ladder much longer, they would have been in trouble.

Your video will be watched hundreds of times by the local firefighters. We will glean years of wisdom through your diligent 4 minutes of footage. Great work.

Wow. A crappy video of a dramatic fire will be used for years in firefighters' training.

I'm actually kinda happy about this, lol.

Have you ever done something random and something good happened out of it?

It was downtown at the Salvation Army's thrift store. According to the fire marshal, there was an electrical problem in the attic of one of the apartments above the store, completely demolishing both apartments (meaning there's nothing left, not even frame), and destroying the storefront. Thankfully, the storage area of the store was unharmed. During the fire, the wind blew the flames and created a "fireball" that engulfed two firefighters that were up on one of the four ladder trucks. It was a violent fire...scary as hell. I'm glad it didn't spread to any of the other buildings (it's in one of those rows of storefronts...) and nobody was injured.

Oh wow. That's a good reason to always have a camera around... it's hard telling what kind of things you can capture on video (and even in pictures) that will be of use later on.

No interesting stories on my end of the world, but... that's awesome. I'm glad everyone came out okay though.

I took a crappy picture once, put it on Flickr, and then these people wanted to use it in a TRAVEL GUIDE for the city in which the picture was taken. It was so special
