Eh, I watched... I don't think she said anything that should seriously offend anyone. She was just honest and, while I don't agree with her views on the subject, she phrased it A LOT better than other people would. You could tell she was under pressure... and she seemed really nice about it. She wasn't bashing gay people at all. I actually appreciate people who can be sincere and honest about their views without resorting to insults and attacks, regardless of what their views are.

Agreed with this user. Not only do we have idiot celebrities running around, saying and doing stupid things, we have even more idiotic people making their own websites and bashing these people for a LIVING. Why not someone a bit more respectful (and respectable!)?
Perez Hilton asked the question probably because he was very aware that Miss Prejean is Christian and he wanted an excuse to be in the spotlight for a few days by bashing her along with his usual celebrity 'gossip'. I'm happy that she was able to express her beliefs, and I don't really think she sounded any more like a bimbo than the other girl who won.
The question was random. Perez submitted the question and claims the pageant officials okay'd it. Miss CA then drew a card that directed her question be Perez's. There was no malicious act there. Of course he posed the question to get the issue recognized; it's a controversial issue of the current time and I see no problem with the fact that it was asked. It doesn't bother me that she answered the question honestly, but the fact of the matter is, Miss USA is supposed to represent all of the country. The way she phrased her answer, she alienated a good portion.
I honestly am 100% with Perez's video blog about this. She could've answered it way better, and said that that is a choice that each state needs to decide for itself. I'm all for whatever each person believes, free speech, and all of that. But I really think she could've won had she worded that better. It wasn't that she didn't believe in gay marriage, it was that she really, really, really muffed up that answer.
At least that's what I think.
I think, that same sex marriage being illegal is just wrong, people whould be allowed to choose what they want :o
I agree with teenbean and SinSparrow anyways :)
And being homosexual does not make a person anti-religious.
I actually really liked this question :P Controversy makes people think.
I don't see anything wrong with that, that's how I was brought up too.
Miss California's answer would have only been laughable if she'd just kept it to being proud to live in a country where people had the choice of gay-marriage or opposite marriage. It was a badly worded answer right from the start and I think she knew that it was going to cost her points because she sounded brainless. I think at that point she just decided 'the heck with it' and threw out her own personal views on the matter which ignited a firestorm of controversy.
Ultimately a contestant's personal views aren't what pageants like these are about. Miss America, Miss Universe, Miss -Insert state here-, all of these contests are about exemplifying the unified ideals of what's being represented. She attempted to present that unified view, fell apart then chose to voice her own view instead. That's not courageous or honest on her part, it was the lip-service equivalent of Peewee Herman hitting the curb on his bike, falling off, doing an awkward somersault to right himself and then telling everyone watching "I meant to do that."
(I've never heard of either of these people before today, but I think I'm all caught up now.)
She had every right to express her opinion. I happen to believe her opinion is stupid, wrong and a good example of what is wrong with America... but hey, she has the right to it.
In the end... it's a beauty contest. Who cares what they think?
I don't really mind that she said what she did. She has her opinion, and she stated it, maybe not in the manner that people would like.
What makes me mad is that she is getting way too much attention for it or anything else, really. The one that should be getting the attention is Miss America.
I'm glad that she kept her crown, but really. There are more important topics out there, honey.
I also agree with almost everyone here that said she had the right to say what she said, but I agree with Perez that she should've at least worded her sentence differently to make her not look like a close-minded imbecile. :)
