Aha. Guess who's unemployed for the DUMBEST FUCKING REASON NOW?
Me.
When my grandmother had a severe heartattack three weeks ago, I sent in a wirrten note asking for emergency family leave. It was approved, so I've been off for the past two weeks. I'm due back next Friday, so I went in to check my hours and collect my stubs.
The first things I found odd was that my security card didn't work at the employee entrance. It's happened before when the systems acting up, so I go in the main entrance and go through the 'employees only' door. I go up the stairs to the board with all our shifts on it, but my name isn't on the list.
Now it's starting to hit me.
So, I go to my supervisor and ask what's going on.
'You're fired for not being at work without reason for the past two weeks.'
...
I GAVE YOU THE FUCKING NOTE WHICH YOU SIGNED OFF ON!
I tried to tell her this, but she kicked me out of her office and told me it was my fault for not handling the situation properly. She said that the note has been lost, and it was my responsability to make sure they had it. Seriously, what the hell kind of logic is that?
So, I have to go through my union to fix the problem and get my job back, but it's almost not worth. I hate that fucking place, and I've been sitting at the bottom of the totem pole getting shit on my supervisor for months. I get ignored when requesting to train in diffeent areas, and it gets handed off to some new employee who can barely even scan their items at their own damn cash.
-sigh-
And if that doesn't suck enough, I got into a huge fight with my better half, who's my OTHER supervisor. I was furious he hadn't said anything, but he told me he had seen the request signed off himself and that he would take it to the union for me.
But I was jut angry at him so I hung upand refused to talk to him for a few hours.
Now I'm sitting here munching on leftover cake and frozen yougurt. Am I the only one who's been fired for some dumbass reason or mistake?
What the HELL. That's ridiculous. You poor thing. Come work for nokia with me. :(
Do I get to throw phones at people...?
That's fucking stupid. .-.

Wow. I was fired from my high school job of over three years, for absenteeism. Apparently. I was REALLY ill, and went to work all week. finally on that Friday I call in, they accept it, and when I went in to check the schedule like the Sunday I found out I was let go.
I would up suing through the labor board for unlawful termination. :D
Ouch that sucks. People really can be pathatic x.x
What the hell? I'd just say,"Screw this" and go find another job.

wow. find something to do that makes you happy. ooh, work at starbucks or something. all the people stand around and talk when they're supposed to be serving you drinks. you probably get paid good since there's a big chain of them. discount coffee. and coffee cakes. mmmmmm
I've learned over the years to never trust management. I know this doesn't help, but what I would've done is get the supervisor to sign off on your request, then make photocopies with her signature on them. That way, if it got lost, it's HER problem, not yours.
Documentation is everything.
I was fired once because my boss failed to put enough money in the company bank account to cover paychecks. I left him several messages telling him how much we needed, I sent him three emails, I left two post-it notes on his computer monitor, I told the receptionist to tell him the amount when he called in (she did) and I called his wife and told her, then called back the next day to check to make sure she told him (she did).
His excuse when the paychecks bounced? "Well, you never told me how much you needed."
He couldn't even look me in the eye when he did it, he was that much of a chickenshit. What had actually happened was that he'd spent all the money in the bank on a new truck for himself, and he KNEW the paychecks would bounce. He didn't have the money to cover them. I was just the scapegoat.
The truth came out, though. A bunch of guys quit over it, leaving him shorthanded and unable to finish a bunch of the jobs he had going. He eventually had to shut down. Karma is a bitch. :)
When I was younger, I babysat for these kids, and they wanted ice cream. I told them, no, no ice cream.
They told their mom I had freaking ABUSED them.
So, she of course believed her kid and I got fired, PLUS got a bad name.
I mean, wtf.
Oh my God. That's is just.. ahdfhikksk.. I have no words for it D:
I have an union meeting next week. Not looking forward to it, but I just want my name cleared.
The good news is I might be working at a bookstore now. The store, Chapters, I applied to a few weeks ago called me back. I'm pretty excited.
Books = LOVE
Good luck with Chapters - working around books would be awesome. :)
I got let go from my internship because they were making cutbacks. But then 2 weeks later, they hired yet ANOTHER director for 250k. (Or so my mom told me--she works there too) SRSLY WTF. You can pay some person to do a bullshit job that much, but you can't keep me?
At least you had a union to go through and I say stay the hell away from going back there. I know many people who get fired for the most stupid reasons.
My husband once got fired from a delivery company because his vehicle got stuck in ice. He called in and everything. He gets back and they tell him that he's fired because he was late getting to the place he needed to be. Because he was stuck in ice. They also said he was irresponsible for getting the vehicle stuck in the first place. Uh-huh.
I had a job, working on a military base. I quit before they could fire me. The girls I worked with were complete bitches and they set me up for sabotage many times. I once had a line all around the store and out the store at my register. I was the only one open because every other employee was in the back talking. Just talking. Not having a meeting. Just talking. I got a slip for leaving my register to beg someone to take a second register. Took them half an hour to come after I asked. >o My supervisor also took $20 out of my register and then said my register had come up short-another slip for me. The whole thing was bullshit.
did you guys not have a security cameras that would have caught that?
(i've never worked...anywhere...so i'm not sure, hoping to change that soon though!)
That blows. I'm glad that the management where I work isn't retarded.
My sister's at risk of losing her job because of something stupid like this too.
I have a feeling though that if I were you, this would not end well for the company... lol. See if you still have a copy of the note/letter whatever and try to argue it? At least get severance pay or whatnot.
Ariawyre sorry that your old place was an idiot.
Actually beyond idiocy if you ask me. Would they not have someone call to find out why you were not showing up for work, I mean obviously not the ones in charge, but someone in the company can not place a call..... its beyond ridiculous.
