I'm thinking about getting a gold account. But only for how many pets I can get and such...

Say I have 10 pets and I stop paying for the gold account. What happens to the pets?

The Pets will stay there, they don't vanish or hop into the Adoption Center. :D

However, if you ever abandon one of them the additional slot will be gone unless you activate another GA Medal.
