... and it's not even certain she'll pull through. ;-; My dog has pancreatitis. Everyone in the house is uber depressed. I just spent a month's paycheck on her vet visit and medication. She's a ten year old dog and I know that she'll have to go at some point, but I don't want to lose her to a fucking infection. It's so sad to see her lying around all the time, with the IV still attached to her leg... Anyways. I'm having trouble getting her to take her medication. I can't put it in food because she's on a strict diet. Any recommendations CC?

that's my pretty girl.

Aww. :( My last dog was suffering from organ failure. Pets dying are really one of the saddest things ever. :I Could you try sneaking the medicine into her food? My aunt used to do that. It worked well. c:

Yah, the vet is very expensive. But after all, I would do and pay everything to help my dog too.

What is she allowed to eat? Isn't it still able to hide the medicine there? What kind of medicine is it anyway (pills?)?

Wow. That...is a gorgeous dog.

Other than sneaking the medication into her food or force-feeding it to her, I don't really have any ideas. I suppose you could try making her think it's a treat, though. Give her a command, then give her the medication while making a big deal about what a good girl she is. I'm not sure if that would work though.

Aw, I'm sorry about that, I hope she makes it.

My aunt puts some of her horse's medicine into a syringe and then just pumps it into the horses mouth and keeps the horse's mouth shut until the horse swallows it (of course, this is for baby horses- the adult ones get medicine through food)

I'm sorry, that sucks so badly. I hope she pulls through...

My cat died from kidney failure a few years ago...There was little they could do for him, so we had to have him put down...

At least there is some chance your dog will make it...Hopefully she will.

Thanks guys. She's not just a pretty face though, she's the sweetest thing ever. :3 She's allowed, other than her vet food, boiled chicken and rice. Yesterday she ate nothing, but today I managed to get her to eat some of the chicken. I'm thinking I might try sneaking it in there, but the pain killers fall apart so quickly and taste so nasty...

She's not acting like her usual self so it's hard to bribe her to do anything.

That's what I've been doing HelloKira; but I just feel so bad shoving pills down her throat, especially when she needs to take 4 in a row. o_o

It does suck :(

Just keep reminding yourself that you're doing it to help her, and give her lots of cuddles and nose kisses to make up for it.

She's so pretty. She'll be in my prayers.

Try sneaking it to her or giving it to her and then rubbing her throat to make her swallow. I hope everything turns out well. She's lucky to have you guys.

If she's not eating and you can't hide the pills in something she likes, that's the worst. hugs

Are these the kind of pills you can crush up or open (removing the gel cap and pouring out the powder)? If yes, you can also try something similar to the comment Lauratheexplorer made about feeding meds to horses - crush the pills (or get the powder out), mix it into water, suck it into a needle-less syringe and squirt it into the back of her mouth. It's gonna be as unpleasant to her as force-feeding the pills one by one but it'll be a blessedly shorter span of unpleasantness for both of you.

I hope she gets better too. hugs again

Aww, your dog is so beautiful! I hope she gets better. What kind of medicine is it? If it is a pill, try taking a little bit of wet food that she can eat and make a meat ball and stick the bill in it. Hopefully she'll eat it and isn't like my dog. She eat the meat ball and spit the pill out LOL

Gorgeous dog <3

What we did with mine before she died is get that stuff you coat pills in. It's like a meaty little pouch. I'm not sure if your dog is able to eat it, though. It worked well, though. And to stimulate her appetite, we used that doggy gravy. She LOVED it.

Thanks guys. :3 She's taking pills. The painkiller is the biggest problem... I tried mixing it in water and forcing her to eat it that way, but i think she just spilled most of it.

She seems to be doing ok right now. She's so stoned right now... lol.

She's a beautiful girl, and I'm so sorry she's so sick. I once spent a fortune to save a cat from liver disease, too. My sister and I had to give her round the clock medicine through a feeding tube every two hours, so I had to change my hours at work so one of us would always be home with her. She did pull through, and I don't regret the money even for a minute. I really hope your little girl pulls through, too. I'm sorry I don't know any tricks for getting dogs to take their medicine. Can you shove the pills way back on her tongue? I wish you all the best.

It always makes me sad when animals are really ill and there's not a whole lot that you can do to help... She's such a pretty dog too. Anyway, I really hope she gets better. Losing pets really sucks. I had one of my cats stolen when I was in kindergarten.
