Please, I prefer if you are going to answer this, you are mature about it, and also, an adult, who knows what they are talking about.

So, I call my obgyn because I am having a pretty bad time with my period ( I wont go into details, but its painful, and Im pmsing like hell which is not normal for me). She said that its nothing to be concerned about right now, but she says I should take a pregnancy test... because messed up periods could be a sign (some people do get periods still).

Well heres my issue, I really have no other reason to belive that I am pregnant. no morning sickness. I still get my periods, and just this one is messed up. (the others all all normal for me.)

I am scared however... Here in lies the problem. Getting a test. Im broke, they are pricy, I dont know of any lab nearby. I dont want to mention this to anyone. I don't have any female friends, I cant ask my parents (we dont get along as is ) my sister will squeal, and there is no reason to worry my bf about this.. I rather not... (hes having his own isuses right now.) (No offense but I wouldn't list this problem online, if i had another source.)

A. do you think I should get a test B. if so, what is a reliable brand that wont break my wallet (or how can I get one for free.. hopefully) C. How do I know its not a false positive.

Im already emotionally messed up from pmsing, so please, only mature answers. Try not to scare me too.

If you had sex, you could be pregnant. There have been people, including one girl from my town, who told themselves over and over that they couldn't be pregnant, they had none of the symptoms...then had a baby with little or no warning. It's not healthy or safe for them, nor healthy or safe for their child. They should have been tested.

If you had sex, get tested. The girl who had a baby in town was on the pill, so even if you used protection you could be in that teeny minority that gets pregnant anyway. I've never had to look at store-bought tests, so I don't know how much they cost or what brand to use, but if I were you I'd take one. If it comes back positive, then go get the blood work done to be absolutely sure.

If your OB/GYN is recommended a test, get the test. The advice of strangers on a forum is no substitute whatsoever for a real doctor's advice.

If you're having sex, the possibility of getting pregnant is always there, no matter what precautions you're taking.

Home pregnancy tests aren't that expensive. I paid less than $20 for a two pack, so I could take both to be sure they both came up negative. If you do get a positive reading, then you need to spend the money to get a real blood test done to be sure.

Always listen to your doctor though!

Is there a Planned Parenthood clinic in your area? You may be able to get a free (or very cheap test) there, as well as advice.

I used to work at a big retail store, and I seem to remember pregnancy tests only running $20-$30, which to me isn't really expensive. o__O And don't forget that you can "spot" if you're pregnant, which some women mistake for their period.

It's probably just a precaution your doctor is taking so that she can rule that out. Your hormones getting out of whack can really affect your period; if you're not on the Pill already, she might put you on it to help control things. I would take the pregnancy test, but don't get all stressed out about it until you see the results. :)

Having an irregular period doesn't mean you're pregnant. Hormonal Birth Controls can cause it. Poor diet and stress can cause it too. We have a dollar store (the real deal. Not this dollar "general" crap) in my city and they have the tests for a buck. My friend has taken like (counts in head) five pregnancy tests ranging from $9-15 dollars. I'm sure you can borrow and scrape enough money to get it. Please take into consideration that if you're having hormonal problems it will effect the test into giving a false positive or negative. I would suggest going to a doctor instead of an OBGYN to check out your hormones and see if they can test you for pregnancy. Intense exercise and eating disorders can also cause irregular periods.

i can't believe i'm saying this but you could steal one...but that's only if you are dessssssperate

what i would do, actually, is go to the health department. if u dont have a job, good.. if u do, tell them you don't. they will let u get tested. they will give u options and if you decide to keep it they will give you free stuff, and classes etc to help you out

honestly, when i thought i was i told my boyfriend and he went and bought a test for me himself XD

but dont worry worrying will make ur body think you are pregnant and mess up the test

yeah... preg tests aren't that expensive -- $20 tops. have your bf split the cost (as he should). or, as previously suggested, find a planned parenthood location and get the test there.

also, there are a few preg tests that offer several kits in a bulk pack (i think a 3 pack?). that way you can take several tests independently if you wanted to confirm accuracy (though i'd like to point out that most tests these days are pretty accurate).

by the way, not all women experience morning sickness when pregnant -- and certainly not always at conception. morning sickness (or lack thereof) should never be a determining factor in pregnancy potential.

I am going to my gyn for my yearly check up next week, Ill just see if they can run a test... they should be able to right?

Also- any time you have an abnormal menstrual cycle, they tell you to take a test so, I'm not that concerned, but I will talk to my gyn. Thank you. <33 (I don't want to alarm my bf or family, over this, if I can just get a test, and if its negative, then I just don't need to tell anyone.)

(Also, By broke, I mean I have literally 10$ other then what I have for food, rent, bills per week xD)

DON'T steal one-as was possibly suggested. The last thing you need is a shoplifting charge on top of your other worries. Ask your neighbors if you can pull weeds or something to make a little extra money if you need to. Your best bet is your gyn. Talk to him or her and he/she will be able to advise you best for your situation. If you are pregnant, and if you consider your parents to be people who love you very much, remember that they are just that....people who love you very much and have your best interest at heart. They may be upset or disappointed at first but they'll help you get through it.

Ok, walmart has thier own brand of test. And I used that brand both times for my kids. And it works just fine. I tink it was less then 10$ for a one pack.

Also your doc should be able to do the test, but they will charge you for it. And depending on how old you are, they might tell your parents about it.

But if it ws my kid, get-along good or not. I would hope and pray that they would know they could tell me any thing. And i would so have thier back!

Good luck to you, which ever way you decide.

Yes. Always follow your doctors advice! If they think you should test..then test Call your doctor back and ask to speak to a nurse. Explain your situation..Ask your the nurse or doctor to order a blood test for you at a lab-remember be firm. Its your right to have one..there is no reason to take a home test first (if you have health insurance you copay should be minimum-I know mine is actually cheaper than a home preg test..If you dont have health insurance ask the nurse to forward you to a womans free clinic in the area)

Honest the only way not to get a false positive or negative is a blood test.. My best friend and I were just talking about this when I had to get a preg test done. She had 2 pregnancies and she was 3-4 months along in before she FINALLY got a positive preg test from a home kit (And yes..she was following the instructions exactly)..I also have friends that got false positives and told their parents for nothing (unnecessary drama)..

Best of luck to you..And remember if you do take a home test..Do it first thing in the morning (first time you go pee)..The hormone will be higher then and will help rule out those false results!

We estimate you've spent about 2,127,481,171 sP on presents this year!
