Why, when you call out of work, no one actually believes you're sick? Every single time I call out of work (which is the second time this year. Once was because of snow, I was stuck) I get hung up on. Why?!
'I'm home sick with a temperature and a stuffy nose. I'm sorry, I'm not going to make it into work today.'
'... Fine' -click-
I didn't realize that when I signed up for this job it meant I wasn't allowed to be sick. Better start ODing on Airborne.
There are people that call out waay more than I do. I know it's important for me to be there, but jeez I get sick days for a reason.
Yep, just ranting. Feel free to share your callout stories or share whether your boss/manager/wannabe manager is understanding.
I get really bad dizziness sometimes, and it can get so bad that I can't even get out of bed! My mum tells me to get up, and I say I can't, and she just says,"Yes you can, don't be silly." It's only until she pulls me up out of bed and sees me fall over that she believes me.

When I was younger my mom thought that I was faking it. She would drop me off at school than drive to work. If she was late, she would obviously get it trouble. One day I woke up and started to feel like crap. She thought I was faking it before I pushed her away and vomited right where she had been standing.
Oh she believed me alright.
My mom thinks I'm always faking, but the teacher actually told me to go home because I looked too sick.
Turns out I had a 102° fever. No wonder I woke up sweaty but having the chills, and with a stomachache. ._.
My boss is like that. Everyone else phones in sick but when I do she gets funny with me, like I'm not allowed to be ill. And she'll question me to try and catch me out. What makes me mad is when I'm feeling that ill that I have to go home and she'll retort back with "Well you don't LOOK ill!" Makes me so mad. There are some work colleagues who don't even phone in, they just never turn up.
I think bosses and such see too many liars and think everyone are liars. In short: The bad people ruined it for the good people.

In fourth grade, I went to the nurse because I got dizzy and sick to my stomach. She said I was fine and sent me back to class. I was called to the front of the room to write on the chalkboard and on the way back to my seat, I puked in front of the class.
My mom believes me when i fake it. I love it becuase we go out to lunch and stuff.
But it sucks because I actually am sick and I dont want to stay home. cough wah
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
For me to stay at home I need to be practically dying :P my parents -never- believed me, so once they sent me to school (I was like what, 11?) with a 40 C degree fever and a raging flu, haha. The school nurse spotted me and drove me home.
They felt bad after that :P
edit: incapable of using correct grammar! woo!
THEY CAN'T BREAK YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SPINE
No one believes it because it's so easy to fake, and people fake it all the time. It sucks when you're actually legitimately sick, but it does make it easier if you need a day off and don't want to tell your boss you're just too lazy to come in that day. Although I guess that just perpetuates the problem, but it's not like everyone's going to stop doing that anyway, might as well take advantage? x3
Yep, my boss threatens to fire you if you call out. I remember being hardly able to move and having to call out and he said "Oh it's fine, there's plenty of people ready to take your place, I can always hire new servers, bye!" and hangs up -_-

My mom also thinks I fake it. She never believes I'm sick. It's really annoying. I mean, I don't want to get on my bike and go to school when I feel like I'm going to puke =_= But she orders me to do so :/ So, I'm one hour at school and after that I just go home sick because I can't take it anymore :( Luckily I'm only sick twice a year or something like that, lol
When I'm too ill to go to work it's okay... because my Dad is the boss and he knows I'm actually ill, so I don't need to go to the doctor and get a sick line or anything. On the other hand, if I wanted to pull a sicky I wouldn't be able too. :P
My mother sent me to school when I had the flu. I think she thought I was faking it when I said I didn't feel well. My teacher was not amused when I turned green in her class and nearly spewed everywhere.
I used to fake sick all the time in jr. high. It got to the point where if I told my mom i had the runs or vomiting she'd tell me not to flush so she could see. P:
I don't do that anymore though. I rarely get sick, so I have yet to call in sick once at my job.

Just to play Devil's Advocate here...
How they react can be for a variety of reasons. When are you calling out? Is it right before you are supposed to go in for work and they have no time to get someone to cover your shift? Or perhaps it is just a busy day (and you knew it was going to be a busy day in advance) and they might even throw in how sick are you (just seeing if you can come in for a few hours).
Coming from more of a boss' point of view it only bugs me when they are calling out, knew it was going to be a busy day to begin with, and they end up calling five minutes before there shift starts :D
