I've had this happen twice now where two items of value have appeared in my inventory and yet no event attached... So... what does this mean? Besides I'm lucky :P

You likely just missed the event.

You have the lizard minion achievement that you get when you take an item from them so I would guess one of them came from that?

Also, you might have completed an achievement with a prize attached without knowing it. For example, a Golden Glory Scratchcard appeared in my inventory and I almost deleted it until I realized that I had scratched 50 scratchcards.

But it's more that it was something of the nature in Jordan's post. Especially since you have the Taking from the Lizards achievement ;3

hmm how bizarre because you usually can't miss the achievement.
