I am now the cook of the family)! Here's why:

On Tuesday, my mother went in for her final knee replacement. The operation went well, and she's already finding it easy to bend and move it around.

She's still on the painkillers, though, so she's a pretty happy right now. :)

Anyway, my dad can't cook worth beans, and my mom's in no condition to stand and cook for a bit. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any simple meals (other than things like pasta, salad, and 'breakfast' type foods) that I can easily make to keep my family from being forced to live off whatever take-out my dad brings home.

The deal is that if I make a list by Saturday of things I need, my dad will pick it up as long as I cook it. So...

Suggestions? (even any websites would be awesome)

Make chicken! It's very easy, there's a million things you can do with it, and everyone loves chicken.

I practically live on this site. You can search for recipes by ingredients you have or want to use, or just by the name. Put in "chicken" or "pork" or whatever, and go at it! I never cooked anything more than mac & cheese before a year ago, and now I can make sesame chicken, lasagna, clam chowder, biscuits, cakes, soups, anything ^_^

Spaghetti, grilled cheese sandwiches, crab salad, scrambled eggs, and baked potatoes are all things even I can cook. Spinach or collard greens are good to have on the side 'cuz they're healthy, and with a little bit of seasoning they don't taste too bad.

Ask for different proteins such as chicken, ground beef, beef, and whatever kind of meat your family likes. There are also some already cooked meals and all you have to do is warm them up. You should ask your dad to take you with him to the store and and you guys can walk around. Here is something my family just stared making and it is super good.

Shrimp Alfredo Need: one pound of fresh raw shrimp 2 boxes of side noodles, such as Alfredo or something along those lines. You can find them in the mac and cheese aisle

Cook: saute' the shrimp in some olive oil until they are fully cooked and prepare the pasta as directed on the box. Once all that is cooked, mix together.

You can also use chicken or turkey.

Heres something else I like to cook:

Baked chicken Need: 1 pack of fresh and thawed chicken breast Bread crumbs Flour Milk eggs salt

Mix flour, bread crumbs, and salt in a bowl. You can mess around with this to your taste. I do 1 1/2 cups of flour and 3/4 bread crumbs and a dash of salt. Mix milk and eggs in a different bowl. Soak chicken in milk/egg mixture and roll around in flour/bread crumbs mixture. Repeat. After the second time, place chicken on a greased pan and bake at 350 degrees. Bake for about 30-35 minutes. Flip the chicken and bake for another 5-10 minutes. The coating will look a little weird, but it still tastes good. You can also make fried chicken with the same recipe, but fry instead of baking.

The best advice I can give is to ask your dad to take him with you tomorrow and stroll around and look for stuff that pops out. Good luck

Breaded chicken, cheesy noodles, and steamed carrots!

That's what I cooked once, when my mom wanted me to make dinner. = ) It was good
