okay, so, i have an alligator named reptar. i'm watching him for my environmental education class over the summer because he's one of the many animals we have in that class and stuff, so please don't post and be all, ''HE BELONGS IN DA WILD!1!!'' because for one, i know this, and secondly, he's a school pet because we study reptiles and the like in our class.
anyways, here's some background information: he's about two years old and about a foot long, and will not grow any longer because they only get as big as their environment. he's friendly and doesn't bite or lash out at you. i know that baby alligators ''croak'' in the wild and what not, but reptar seems to do it frequently.
one day when i had him outside (i let him walk around in my front yard when i'm out there) he started croaking. the next day i went to school and told my teacher and she said that she's never heard him do that the whole two years she's had him.
sometimes i'll be holding him and petting his head/back and he'll lift his head up and start croaking. and my guy friend came over and reptar was just sitting on my friend's chest and my friend was petting his back and he started croaking again.
is he doing this because he's happy? i'm not entirely sure and apparently he's only started doing it since i brought him home. i tried looking it up but the only information i got i already knew, as in they croak to attract mates and the babies do to call their mom, etc.
do you have any information that you'd like to share?
Reptar is like, the cutest name ever hahaha
Thats hilarious though He liiikes you.
google'd, here's what i got:
young alligators croak when they're scared or in distress, to get the attention of their mother. it probably doesn't apply to reptar, though, since he's not a baby anymore.
older alligators croak to attract females. reptar might just be looking for some action! :o
EDIT: oh, looks like you already looked it up.
anyway, yeah, those are likely the only two instances reptar will croak.
tehe, thanks guys. c: he's my baby.
and : but that's so weirdddd. he's only looking for love since he's lived with me? ha, that makes me feel dirty. and i don't think he's distressed. because it's not like he tries to run off or tries to bite me when i'm petting him.
maybe it's mating season for alligators? reptar might just be trying to see if there's any girly-gators in the neighborhood, though he has some bad timing..
reptar wants you and your friend to be his alli-lovers!
i would totally do him if bestiality wasn't frowned upon. :(
He's probably in heat? Once my cat was in heat and she would roll around and make croaking nosies too. not that that really helps at all. o__o
but damn i loved the rugrats. ❤
A Pet alligator? how random xD
but I must say, I love the name Reptar.
Ahhh, memories
Wait....what?
Whatever the reason behind the croaking, that's just too fucking cute.
Maybe he croaks for the reason cats purr?
But the being in heat thing is funny.
thanks for your advice though guys. i appreciate it~
Awww! That seems so cute!
Happy alligator :)
He sounds like he's got a way better life than most alligators! So he must be happy! Sniper had a pet alligator once, but it ran away. I wonder what happened to it...

I know what happened to it, Scout... But you're not gonna like it.
