My grandmother just called from the hospital. She's been in the hospital for the past few days because she broke her hip. She's 85 and her mind isn't exactly a steel trap. She just called to tell me to call the police that she was tied up in a bed, and that my mother and father left her there to die.
My grandmother often has these fabrications that she believes to be true, but this...ugh. I'm thinking it's something to do with the medicine she's recieving but it's just so scary. Luckily we live only a few blocks from the hospital so getting there is not a problem, but this is the second time my grandmother has called, worrying that we left her in a home to die.
I'm worried and scared and I don't know, I just...need advice, or something. I feel bad for my grandmother and especially my mother, who has been helping my grandmother for the past 8 months, far more than her two brothers who live within the area but are too fucked to help. She doesn't deserve to be accused of this shit.
tl;dr I'm scared shitless.
Wow. Maybe just go and visit her when you can and reassure her that she's not being left to die?
It might be her medication that's giving her delusions. Or else it might be some kind of mental aging illness?
I'm sorry if I'm not that helpful. I don't know that much about the elderly and I can't say I've ever been in a position like that. :P
Maybe you could bring her cards and flowers to show her you care. ❤
By the way... Has anyone told that guy he's being stalked by that creepy girl? D;
Ohh, it actually sounds like she may have some form of dementia. But she may not, I don't know her situation or drugs and even if I did I'm no doctor.
Anyways, tough luck kid. That's a hard spot to be in. Just make sure she knows you love her :)
Awe, bubb.
Right now it seems like you and your family are doing what you can to make your grandmother comfortable. Take a trip to see her tomorrow or if it's not too late go tonight. Just remind her when you can that you're there for her- and be patient when she's acting a little strange. Just talk to her.
We visted her yesterday, she's really not allowed to have a lot of visiters (she only reccently got out of surgery and has been very tired) Plus hospitals hate kids. we were going to make her a card today, with a drawing of her cat...:/ I'm 100% sure it's the medicine, she probably woke up very scared and confused. she probably has dementia, she's fairly stable but sometimes she'll forget that we've been living with her for 8 months, she has no real perception of time.
-ha. no. i didn't have school today so I wouldn't know.
edit: thanks for moving this, i probably should have put it there myself, i'm tired and kind of dizzy.
I would go and spend some time with her. Assure her shes not there to die, just to get help for her him. Bring flowers and stuff from home to make it more familiar.
My granddad before he died did this, He died of lung cancer but he would call us crying saying he wanted to die. Well we brought him his favorite tapes of me and my cousin learning how to swim and him helping us climb a tree and my first horseback ride (which he wanted me to do. he got my mom into riding) and it made him feel better.
I was there when he died and the last thing he said was " ride baby girl ride. You've got a gift for horses, don't let anyone tell you different. Become an olympian and when you win, always remember that first day that you got on a horse all proud and remember what i said. (i said this with him) ride baby girl ride. " Then he closed his eyes and passed away. I cried the whole time and while he was saying that the video of my riding a horse for the first time was playing. It was special.
But back on topic, make her feel at home. Hospitals are scary especially for older people.

Try talking with her doctor. Express your concerns about her medication and its effects on her behavior. Tell your parents first and then talk to the doctor as a family, so that you have the backup of the adults so they don't just discount you as a child with an imagination.

Just be an extra good kid, it's what your mom will appreciate most.
