im sure youve heard of their current situation.
do you have any family who are going to lose their jobs as a direct or indirect cause of this? my aunt is going to lose her job, she works as an environmental specialist for a branch of GM in brussels.
edit general motors
I don't know anyone on GM, but living in Delaware, I know a lot of people that work for DuPont. It's only a matter of time before they lose their jobs. My parents lost their jobs to DuPont years ago and things haven't been the same. They lost 2/3 of their income
if she works for gm and is a part of the UAW then it is partly her fault for letting the union force GM to pay extremely high wages. The Union bosses are to blame for GM's current situation and of course the government. sorry for her loss.
I lol'd at the title typo. :P
I don't know anyone who works for GM, but it does suck. Our economy is so bad right now.
Not like we didn't see this coming .... Sucks to lose a job though. Hopefully she can find something.
Yeah, this is going to be epic. Interesting to see who survives, and how.
collecting Awesome typo, ROFL.
This does suck majorly, especially for people living in small towns where the plants/dealership is one of the main sources of labor. All of this job loss has me concerned about whether or not our economy can recover. Anything to do with a large corporation going bankrupt is usually of compound causes.

Haha, I was confused by your title for a sec... But it does indeed suck. I remember quite a few acquaintances losing their Circuit City jobs a while back... I don't know many people in GM, however.
Our economy is majorly sucking right now.
sigh Dad lost his job last October.
Still hasn't found one yet. :(
I hope something comes up for all these folks needing work. I won't even try to claim I feel bad to see GM go; they got in this situation because of greed, they were given ALL THAT money when we didn't have it to give in the first place, and they still managed to have to file bankruptcy. But at the same time, it's not the asshats who caused it that are going to suffer. Whole cities are going to dry up because of this. When a plant closes down you can see a difference in the surrounding area within five years (most of the people will be driving older cars). I lived close to a steel mill when I was little. They closed it down and you could watch the city drying up as smaller businesses grew weaker without the steel mill money coming in. Now, a "good job" where I grew up is being manager at a gas station. There aren't any good-paying jobs there any more.
I figure it's going to be a little like that, only a lot bigger.
My dad works at an RV company which is affiliated with GM. :/
If my dad's losing his job, my family is basically going to be poor. Fuck.
Soon we're headed for another Depression.
well, Saab is sinking like a stone right now, and Volvo (though not owned by GM) is crab-walking.
Soooo many lay-offs among my friends. Lucky for them they're young and just do military service or study at university if they can't find work :P
Hopefully it shapes up though I seriously doubt GM ever will regain the major role in the car industry it's had before.
I think it's hit USA (or the car producing states anyway) more than Europe since they are so specialized - I mean, sure, certain areas of say Belgium produce a lot of cars, but the car industry is not the sole employer even there. Detroit (as far as I know) is pretty much dependent on GM. Sucks for the people employed :(
