I want to write a novel involving the mafia. Where do I go to learn about the proper things to do? (No...no, I never saw 'Godfather.') As in, mannerisms, etc.

And YES, Italian mafia.

Maybe if I'm lucky it'll be the next Twilight. Lots of $$$ no matter how bad it is.

XD @ the twilight thing. funny you should say this, as I was currently reading through eiko-chan (on deviantart)'s comic about the italian mafia. perhaps you might want to ask her for some pointers as to where to look it up.

Go into your local library and look up books on the mafia, the local libraries are usually very helpful for research like this, for background history and how they acted perhaps? read up books on them and such...

I know they were always very cordial...but that's it.

'I'm so sorry I have to blow your brains out, Vinnie.'

Oh and the ONE time they were on 'House.'

How in-depth do you want to research the Italian mafia? If you need basics, look on Wikipedia and check out the source links at the bottom of the page. If you're actually going to do the research, you can start with google and read through websites to build up a knowledge of information. Checking out books from the library can help too.

My government teacher is Italian and his grandfather was either in or had connections to the mafia. His grandfather was in the jewerly business, had a big house, and "could walk into any pizza place, make himself a pizza, and leave without paying." Also, you might want to research Italians in general - their mannerisms would carry over to the mafia such as displaying affection by kissing cheeks and what not.

Thanks, you guys. Unfortunately I am not near a decent library, so I'll have to do this all via the internet. :)

You can probably find a lot of information without having to read books - most stuff is online now a days anyway.

You can also try to watch videos on Youtube where you can find movie clips, parodies, or maybe even a documentary on the mafia.

man I wish I could walk into a pizza place, make myself a pizza, and leave without paying XD

also, on that note. I know you haven't seen the godfather movies, but I recommend that you do. They stick very well to italian mannerisms. It'd give you a taste.
