Nearly 60 hours of play gone...

I was attempting to update MSN while saving my game in SLAI: Steel Lancer Arena International, and overwrote my favorite file.

Eight million Crypto Credits in winnings, five amazing mechs, and 60 hours of gameplay gone...

...fuck...

[note: the above is an expletive.]

Don't tell me I'm the only one to have this happen to me.

You've all done it at one time or another.

Currently: Myself.

Oh yeah, most definitely. My SNES does this to me ALL the time (yes, I still have my SNES. Old skool ftw). Like, on my Donkey Kong Country 2 file, it just totally deleted everything one day. I was 1 AREA from getting to the final boss. And if you haven't played DKC at all, I suggest you do, although I hope that you aren't a hot head, because then you'd kill yourself. :( That game is no shit, I swear. I had spent over 50 hours on it. ALL FUCKING GONE. Same thing with my other SNES games. It deleted EVERYTHING. But I guess I'm somewhat used to it now, since it happens often. It'll just have trouble turning on one day, and I'll know that it's deleted my file. D: But I still can't over the fact that it deleted my Illusion of Gaia file. That made me just want to run outside and yell "FUCK MY LIFE." xD My PS2 did similar things with my memory card. It deleted all my Dynasty Warriors files. Dx Oh my gawwddd. I had ALL the characters in Dynasty Warriors 3 (old I know, lmao), and bam, they were all GONE. There goes 100 hours of hoarding people. :( But when it deleted both my SUPER UBER Kingdom Hearts 1 and God of War files, I kind of gave up on life for a little bit and went back to my PS1. :P

You have my deepest sympathies. It happened to me once, but I've had nightmares of accidentally saving over my kh1 file... Anyways, I hope you'll be able to recover soon and maybe start rebuilding your file.

Yeah, I hope so...

I can remember the loadouts of my mechs, but I'm going to lose a lot of random things; parts I've bought, winnings records...

sigh I've done it before, too.

Currently: Myself.

I've accidentally saved over my one and only level 250 file on Tales of Symphonia. I had all of the sidequests finished, the whole team having maxed-out levels (and those who have played would know that's really hard to achieve).. at least I've managed to reachieve said team level in another file, but still. o_x;

Oh, and I overwrote my Super Smash Bros. Melee file on accident some time ago. There goes 50+ hours of play, all of the secret stages and characters down the drain. :/

I did that in Morrowind once. I had completed the main quest (the only time I've played through the game without cheating, too cough). Then I started a new character, and even though you have unlimited save slots, I managed to overwrite my old game. It's the most annoying feeling in the world.

I was literally JUST about to post this exact same thing! Holy crap, I had DW 3 and DW 3 Xtreme Legends with only 5 more characters very hard level 5 weapons to get and then...gone. It just wasn't there. The file had been overwritten with the default game data. I never recovered and I have yet to touch the game again. But I got all the subsequent DW games so I guess it really doesn't matter anymore XD.

Having any data deleted leaves you with a "hole in the heart" feeling XD. It's actually rather terrible.

I once started a new game on Pokemon Red, thinking I could restart and trade a starter pokemon to a friend, and then just go back to my old save file. I forgot though that in order to trade you have to save the game. I realized after I hit yes to the save button. I cried because I lost my previous save file. Literally cried. I was like 14 though. But I still understand your pain big time.

Aww, I hate it when that happens to games.

I've had issues with save files on some of my games. My PS1 memory card constantly glitches because I overloaded it in past with more game data than it could hold. My Spyro 3 game file was deleted due to this, and I had full completion of the game; all gems, dragon eggs and epilogue points, too. :/

Holy shit, Harlequin, you've got to love that game more than I love SLAI, and that's saying something!

3000 hours? What, do you have every pokemon in the game at level 100?

FFFFFFFFFFFFFF, I feel your pain!

I worked at a Game Store a few years back, and they let me take home new releases to play... So I thought I'd take Radiant Dawn home and play through it that week...

My save file for Path of Radiance was on my third party memory card (You know the ones, with 16x more than a normal GCN card.) so I put it in since I had a complete game with bitchin' leveled characters...

And it corrupted the card.

3k is a FRACTION of the hours I played on that card alone! (Though that's pretty damn impressive for a Pokemon game, kudos Harlequin!) I was so shocked and overwhelmed that for the first five minutes me and my brother just stood there, unable to breathe, let alone raeg everywhere. (Normal reaction, amirite?) Then we got the hell over it, popped in a game from our GCN library, and started working back up to where we were. It was actually really fun replaying all our old games...

Ouch. My condolences.

I accidentally overwrote a file on SA2B. 72 Emblems, or something.

I had fun doing the entire thing over again (Except Crazy Gadget--I never beat that!), and did even better the second time.

Th-th-th-three thousand hours?!? Dang, I only had 250 hours on my Silver and it died recently... r.i.p. my 7 level 100s.

sigh I saved over my super fast (for me) banjo-kazooie file. I beat it, 100 puzzle pieces and 900 notes, in around 4 hrs and 43 min.

But I think what I hate even more than accidentally saving over a game are corrupt data files. I just checked on my Disgaea DS game after a 2 month break and my top two files were corrupted and the surviving file was 7 hours behind those two. I soo don't want to do all that again.

And then there's when other people somehow get a hold of your game and delete all your files. That happened to both Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

I remember once, I turned on my Wii one day to play some Super Smash Bros Brawl and... "Data is corrupt. Can not load game" WTF??? My 90% finished game just randomly got fucked up!? Oh god, I was so pissed off. All I could do was delete the data and start again I tried starting all over again but...I've just given up now. It's only like 40% finished now.

That was probably the first time it's ever happened to me...it's not nice.

That's brutal. ;-; I haven't done anything that bad, but my friend over wrote both my Fallout 3 and Condemned 2 games with her own new one. Condemned wasn't that bad, but Fallout you actually accumulate stuff, so it sucked.

I know your painnnn. I have a niece and nephew and I let them play my Pokemon Silver and told them NOT to save. Of course what did they do? Save. All my pokemon were lvl 100 all the badges from both regions, everything gone. I was soo pissed, but I couldn't scream in their adorable faces. That and I was playing SO:TtEoT and my memory card got corrupted somehow. Just had finished Universe mode. I wanted to strangle an old person out of pure rage. :x

Also, I went on a road trip with my two best friends from Ontario up to Miami, and they somehow, I don't know how, convinced my to take my 360. I wrapped it in a bunch of towels and put it on top of all our luggage so it wouldn't get bashed around.

Well, my friend rips open the trunk and pulls out her backpack unthinkingly, and guess what falls off of the pile and crashes to the pavement? ._.

It was undamaged, except somehow all the memory for all my games was erased. Weirdly enough though, when I hit it in frustration, all of the memory came back. o_0
