so, my BF's aunt's cat had kittens about a month and a half ago, and they're going to the shelter this coming tuesday. i've wanted a kitten sooo bad, ever since i found out that i wasn't really allergic to them. there's this adorable orange-striped kitty, with big blue eyes and cute white paws. i've named him Jack, even though.. i know i shouldn't. x_x i'm seriously considering getting him but... we just moved into an apartment, and i'm not sure the landlord will let us get a cat. so, i'll call him tomorrow (don't want to bother him on a Sunday), and ask. here's the thing though; i really don't know what to say. i stutter like.. a LOT when i talk to people in a serious way. like, the other day i called about seeing if i could get a lower cost rate for our electric bill, and i couldn't remember what i was supposed to say, and i probably majorly confused the electric guy because i kept tripping over every other word. so, CC.. how would YOU ask your landlord if you could have a kitten? :3 oh and! post pictures of your kitties.. i wanna see all the cute balls of fluff. ^^
There.. XD Just so people may post. I would post Mr. Kitty.. but he's too annoying to take a picture of. -sigh-
I don't have a landlord. c:
But I understand the stuttering part. My dad asked me to order pizza once...big mistake. I ended up ordering whatever he offered. We had to pay $40 because I kept stuttering and talking quickly because I wanted to just hang up. ._. Needless to say, I order online from now on.
Here's my fluffy-poos. c:

What I do when I'm stuck in situations like this where I have to talk to someone on the phone, I write down exactly what I want to say, then have it on my lap in order to read out what I want to say. Also, if you know when they're home/not home, you could intentionally call when they're out so you get to leave a message.

I'd ask if the landlord is a cat lover (or at least fond of them) then I'd ask if I could have a kitty.
Here's my cat Mellow.

Personally, I wouldn't tell your landlord.
I have at least half a dozen friends who live in apartments where pets aren't allowed, but they sneak in cats or small dogs and the landlord never finds out. If your landlord checks up on your apartment periodically or something like that... just hide the stuff when he comes around ? Or keep the cat stuff in your bedroom (and the litter pan in the bathroom) and shut the doors, assuming the landlord won't be nosy and look into each room.
meh, sorry about the small font guys. large font annoys me, lol. guess i'll have to change it.
anyway - love the kitty pictures! ^^ and thanks for the suggestions. we've lived here six months now, and he's never stopped by/called us, so i did actually suggest we bring the kitten in without the landlord knowing. my BF.. meh, he doesn't want to do that behind his back. but maybe i can convince him to. honestly, though, if he hasn't come by in six months, will he ever? xD
I'd just ask straight out. Asking what the policy is on pets.
I don't have me cats anymore.
Well, first of all, I find it rather irresponsible that they allowed their cat to have kittens and is now sending them to the shelter. There is such a thing as spaying a cat if you don't want to have to deal with what will come later.
As for wanting to get a kitten when you're living in an apartment that's pet-free, I gotta say from my own experience of my mom being a land-lord it doesn't seem very likely that he'll make an exception. More likely than asking to have a dog live there, but not too much.
There is a reason why those rules are put into place. You have no idea how many times my mom and I have had to rip up carpeting because some of her tenants felt the need to go behind her back and have either a dog or cat living there. We both love animals and have several of our own, but when it's in your lease, that you signed, that no animals were allowed and your landlord happens to find evidence you had an animal, he could very well take you to court for it and that's not fun. So I would say no, don't adopt a kitten when you're not in the situation to do so.
If you're still planning on at least asking him if it would be alright, he could say okay, but he's going to ask for a pet deposit which are often times a bit expensive. And to have a better chance of even getting that far, I would suggest adopting a female kitten and not a male and telling him this. Males tend to spray to mark their territory before they're fixed and that definitely won't be something your land lord will be happy hearing about. I'm sure he's had some experiences before that have caused him to have pet-free apartments.
Sorry about the block of text, but I just want to make sure you know what you're getting into before you decide to ask or just adopt the kitten. :3
