angry work story/novel ahead warning.
So right now my Grandma's in the hospital, and I'm really really worried about her. And I was just kinda feeling really really emotional. But I had to work and didn't want to let down my work/lose out of the money so I went despite feeling like I was going to break down.
Yeah, and I did break down. For a good hour. Now I work at a grocery store, as a cashier. So basically I was crying/sobbing, while I was working and wishing customers a great night.
Right before my boss sent me home, this lady called my work.
And started bitching at my boss how the cashier was crying and how it offended her, and said things like how dare she do that in front of customers, young people these days need to stop feeling emotional and when my boss explained just why I was crying, she said she needs to suck it up! Yeah, then my boss started yelling at the women until she finally she slammed the phone on her.
ARGH. I hate people. :c
what the fuck. that lady should be the one to suck it up if someone crying offends her.
Thank god you have such a sympathetic boss. There was a girl in my speech class who was telling us about how her boss yelled at her for getting upset at work when her grandma died. I felt so bad for her. :(
That lady is a selfish bitch.
Wait...she said you need to stop being emotional? Oh the irony... That woman is a dog. I'm sorry you had to deal with her.
I know how you feel.
When my grandmother was in the hospital, I had a different problem with work. Like you, I'm a cashier, so I knew I wasn't in the state to deal with customers. I had no sympathy from my supervisor. I called in to tell her that things weren't look very good, and she just sighed as if annoyed and told me I was 'being too difficult'.
When my grandmother actually passed away and I called in to take a few personal days, she replied with:
'Why don't you just quit if you don't want to show up for work?'
I was upsetting. I ended up going into work, but I broke down and two of my friends had to drag me into the break room and calm me down. My supervisor cut my pay for the day and told me I was wasting her time.
I also had a friend who's father died, and her mother came to tell her at work. My friend asked to take a few months on LOA and was refused, so she ended up quitting.
My supervisor is a heartless bitch.
at least your boss was understanding. it could have been a lot worse if she was as bitchy as phone lady D:
I'm so glad people agree with me. I know the grocery manager said he was going to call the women back and give her a piece of his mind. And he can be pretty scary.
Oh, I guess I should have clarified but she's my supervisor not my employer. Thank god, because she's a lot more understanding. Infact, when she told me to go home the first time I refused because I didn't want my fellow cashiers to be angry with me, but she actually got me to go home because I was so upset that I was upsetting her. :c I love my supervisor, srsly.
And Ariawyre, I can't believe your supervisor. I don't think I could work their if I had people like that as my management. Are you still there because I wouldn't put up with that.
Yeah, there was 5 other tills actually. And it's not like she one of the unlucky few that I burst out in tears halfway through their purchase. :x
And she used the customer is always right card on my supervisor, who respond with there's nothing to be right about when you're just being ignorant, rude and have no empathy for others at all.
I hope your grandmother is alright.
That lady is a heartless bitch and needs to get the bug out of her ass.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your and your family D: I hope everything turns out ok.
Wow. That lady actually made me angry.
I hope that your grandma will be ok!
When they first 'fired' me, I was angry, but then so glad I was free. When I found out it was a mistake, I burst into tears.
I plan on giving them notice soon. I'll miss the money, but I rather work somewhere else. There's a local bookstore that's called me back for a second interview, so...
-crosses fingers-
Some people are so wierd about others crying. My 4rth grade teacher once made me do lines for crying in class after my grandpa died.
What the fudge! The nerve of that lady! Makes me soo mad! Sorry about your grandmother though. hugs Hope she gets well.
This. This this this this this.
So your grandma's in the hospital and she's telling you to suck it up? When SHE is the one who's offended by a youngster crying? GEEZ.
That's awful, when I don't know what's going on and I see somebody crying I just ask them what's wrong. I also tell they don't have to tell if they don't want to but it's just polite to listen to somebody if they want to vent.
I hope all will be well with your grandma.
Hope your grandma gets better :( But really now. I bet if that lady was in your position, she'd be crying aswell.
the nerve of that lady :/ not like you're crying to upset her or anything. I'd probably be unsettled if a cashier cried but I certainly wouldn't call to complain :P I mean, no one cries for fun. I won't judge a stranger for crying when I don't know anything about their life :/
Hope you grandmother gets better soon <3
THEY CAN'T BREAK YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SPINE
