When you refer someone they must complete various tasks around the site to &;count&; as a referral for you. This includes making a certain amount of sP, adopting a pet, among other things.
All you do is advertise your referral link in places non-subeta users will see it and hope they click/sign up. After they complete the 'requirements' it'll count as a referral for you and you'll get the appropriate prize.
