Well... I do. :3 I used to be an OpenCanvas artist all the way, but... SAI'S LINEART TOOL. IT IS LOVE. AHHH.
I may just be switching to doing all my art on SAI from now on.
If I can figure it all out. D8
Does anyone have any tips for SAI? I'm pretty much a newbie at it.
I adore sai's pen tool xD it's awesome. I hate photoshop's pen tool so having sai's pen work all vector-like is awesome.
Ha, yeah, and have you seen OpenCanvas 'line tool'? Your choices are: draw a rectangle, draw a circle, or draw a straight line. :/ So. You can see why SAI was such a welcome relief. x3
Lmao, I have. it was...interesting, to say the least. I can't really operate OC as is.
I love SAI :3 When I had my trial, it was the only program I used. xD GUHH TIPS. Use the pen pressure simulation thing often! XD And you can only use it once you finished making your line... and can really only be used when using the curve tool.... you'll figure it out... XD It's actually a very simple program. You just have to learn 3 or 4 things and the way the program works is crystal clear.
Omg. I just tried out the pressure thing. And I seriously shouted out loud, "Oh, SWEET!"
That is AMAZING. AHHHH. ❤️
sai is really great, i use it for linework and coloring. but, if i can somehow replicate this color mixing brush i made in SAI in photoshop, i don't think i'd be using it as much, because it's a pain to switch between both sai and photoshop to put on finishing touches.
I knoooow, I fell in love with it too ;u;
And I don't really have any tips, I just mess around with things until I figure out their effects, haha~
I originally used OC 1.1 and then I tried SAI and I couldn't go back for anything except sketching on occasion and OCing with friends. I love SAI's color system and ever since I started using it all my pictures seem a lot more vivid. <3
I love SAI too! The line tool is so easy compared to the one in photoshop! My only problem is that I haven't got the full version of SAI, only a trial. (they don't sell it here) I've got no tips.. Just try everything out! That's how you'll learn how to use it.
To be honest some of the Subeta artists have used SAI for their linework and it just seems kind of lifeless on some few things now, most notably items.
I understand the appeal of crisp, nice lineart, but I'd rather do it by hand with the brush and get some personality in there.

I don't like SAI at all. It feels a little ... I'm not sure. I didn't like the feel of it. I agree with Corgi, some artists just get more personality in their lineart using Photoshop. I know I do :<
I gotta agree with Corgi and Homestar. SAI can produce some lovely artwork, but I think it takes a lot of feeling and life out of the art. I feel like it kind of over compensates for artists and holds their hands and takes away a lot of the ingenuity that would otherwise be there.
But I guess it's just a stylistic difference, like some people prefering acrylics to oils. -still an opencanvas junkie. XD-
To each their own, really. Examples of my work using the program are up on my FA.
oh yeah, i know what you mean. sai is wonderful - i like how i can line in it and switch to pretty realistic painting brushes in one program.
but i know what you mean too, corgi and others - i haven't adjusted to a program outside of sai. i feel like its line smoothing is almost like a crutch - albeit a pretty useful crutch!
