I'm surprised there isn't a topic on this already. It's been all over the news since the elections took place last Friday.
For anyone who's been living under a rock:
Personally, I don't believe the results. It doesn't seem very believable that Ahmadinejad won 63% of the vote in an election with this much support for the opposition and this much anger at his re-election. Not to mention indications earlier on that Ahmadinejad wasn't playing fairly, such as with trying to block Facebook, which was used by Mousavi's supporters. I'm fully in support of the protests, just not the violence. I really hope that the demonstrations can actually make some sort of a difference.
I know Mousavi's platform was far more liberal that Ahmadinejad's, but not much beyond that. I'm not really sure whether to believe he would've instituted major reforms or whether those were just campaign promises. Either way I'm sure I would have preferred him as president though.
So: opinions? Were the elections fair? Is anything going going to come of the protests? Is the violence justified? Opinions on Mousavi and Ahmadinejad?
I was just about to make a post. XD
But seriously, there's a lot going on in Tehran, and I wish the best of luck to all supporters of Mousavi. Reports say that Ahmadinejad allowed to fire upon the protesters, but they are refusing. I think it's the militia that are shooting the people. A lot of sites popped up to post all information and videos found, even if they block twitter there's going to be ways around it.
Plus it's crazy to think that there's any way to count millions of peoples votes in about three hours and declare victory.
There's a good overview of the whole thing here: http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_political/3345280.html Long, but well worth reading.
