yep! here's the story:
we had forgotten to put the cover over our pool a couple days ago, and it had rained that night. we decided we'd dump the water out tonight since it's kinda yucky now, and move the pool elsewhere in our yard (right now it's underneath a little tree, and leaves and bugs keep falling into it). today was pretty windy, and we hadn't bothered putting the cover on the pool since we were going to dump it.
i looked outside to see if anything other than the plastic table had been toppled over by the wind. imagine my surprise when i saw a bird bobbing around in the pool! i had a good laugh, but decided to go outside and rescue it. after all, i don't think my dad would be very happy if he came home to a dead bird floating around.
even though i had gloves on, i was afraid of touching it, fearing it would peck at me or it had a disease or something. i kind of stumbled around for a few minutes and watched it try to throw itself over the rim of the pool, unsure what to do. i finally chose to hold the thing we use for cleaning out the pool near it, and it clung on. the first time its grip wasn't so good and it fell backwards into the pool (which made me giggle; i know, i'm horrible), but the second time went fine.
it's been about 10 minutes, and the bird is still sitting on top of the thingy i used to pull it out of the pool. it looks kind of bewildered, lol. hopefully it didn't swallow too much water :x
so yeah. i am a hero, i guess. and yes, i washed my hands after coming back inside. it makes me happy that i just saved a life - that bird would have certainly drowned if someone hadn't helped it out of the pool. :D
aw that poor bird : D i'm glad you helped him. do you know what kind it was?
it was probably just a regular old crow. they hang out in our yard and on our street a lot during the summer, because we always have the bird feeder overflowing with food.
it was a little on the small side, though. usually the crows here are really big, fat things, but this one was just a little puff ;p
wow, awesome save!
weird that the bird was trapped in a pool. very unusual. how are things with him now?

Having a cat that likes to bring me live birds means I've saved countless birds. Plus I saved my budgie when he fell in the sink one time.
i know, i thought it was pretty weird he got trapped in there, too. it was crazy windy today, though, and he was kinda small compared to the crows that usually hang out around here. i think that maybe the wind had knocked him down into the pool mid-flight, and his wings had gotten so drenched with water they weighed him down enough that he wasn't able to get himself out.
he stayed in the same spot for about 20 or 30 minutes. i looked out and he was nowhere in sight. that's a good thing, though; it means he was probably able to fly away without much trouble.
Aww! That's so great. I love saving lives. Haha. It always makes me feel so good. Our cats corner mice quite often and I'll pick the mice up and take them outside.
I love crows. I'm so happy to know it's okay too. Hopefully it flew away and will be alright. :D We have an entire murder of crows that visit our house everyday because my dad feeds them. He makes them eggs and toast. :P
That poor thing must have been so scared. ):
A squirrel drowned in our pool before. It was right when we were changing out the water so the pool was halfway full and he couldn't get out. D=
: yeah, i bet he was terrified. the funny thing is, though, when i tried to help splash him out of the pool, he swam away like he wanted nothing to do with me. but when i got the nice, dry net, he was more than happy to latch on, haha.
: aww, that's terrible. D: poor little guy. i had originally thought the bird was a squirrel, actually. and i was a little scared to go help him in fear he'd rip off one of my fingers. squirrels can be vicious.
one of my friends had a squirrel drown in her pool, too. she's not the smartest person ever, though, and tried to throw him over the fence into her neighbor's yard to have them deal with him. he hit the fence and exploded. :x i'm so glad i wasn't there to see it.
