So, maybe some of you know this little thing.

No, it's not a match, it's an implanon xD This little stick is implanted in your arm and protects from pregnancy for 3 years. It gives hormones (called etonogestrel) to your body all the time, like the pill, but you can't forget it, so it's much safer. Also you can use it if you can't take pills with estrogen, because this one doesn't contain any estrogen. It'll be removed after 3 years and can easily be replaced with a new one right away.
I got mine a few months ago and I'm very happy with it. The day after I got it was horrible, couldn't move my arm right, everything was green and blue, but after a few days everything was fine and now it works perfectly. I choose this option because I always forget my pill and right after my son was born I didn't want to get pregnant again, so this was the best way for me.
Does anyone of you got one or know one who got it? Any problems with it?
According to Wikipedia the failure rates for perfect use are 6 times lower than cocp. didnt know that.
ive heard of people suffering from serious anal leakage though. greenish vaginal discharge and necrosis of the arm skin.
yes, I read that too, but according to what I've read only 1% of people using this suffer from things like that. The only thing that happened to me that I had akne a little, but with a little more cleaning of the face each evening this has gone.
acne seems normal to me considering the shitload of hormones it pumps into your body. the peak serum etonogestrel is crazy high at first.
how much did it cost?
300€, so according to Google: 419,31 USD. But I think it was well worth it. I had much more problems with the pill, I felt bad all the time, had terrible migraine and felt sick. I think it was the estrogen but I'm not sure, though it's much better now. And according to the pill that costs 50€ (69,88 USD) for 6 months right now the price was the same.
Well, that's something to do too... but it's a bit dump if you are married xDD
My friend uses it. She like to poke it out and be creepy and scare us. It works for her as for as I know she has yet to conceive. Our prego friend though said she was next in line. We pretend she is all knowing because she's got a kid in her belly. lol
Oh wow. That's pretty amazing... I really want it, well, when I actually get old enough to... :P
Hmm, I'm usually a little leery of the multiple-year, implanted types of contraceptives, but that's probably because of a friend of mine from university that managed to get major, life-threatening blood clots from a similar product. She nearly died, and because of it she can't use any kind of medical contraceptive ever again, just condoms and foam. That in and of itself is a major pain in the ass for her.
That said, it was with a similar product, and not the specific one you mentioned. I've heard about the same gross side effects as already mentioned, but that's all I know. I've heard enough horror stories from friends and family for some of the newer contraceptive methods that I'm probably just going to resort to the regular old low-dose pill, but I'm probably just being a chickenshit :P
Arya, I know, there are/where products similar to that one that have been a little more dangerous. As far as I know they where not nearly complete :/ This one is pretty easy to get and to handle and the best part of it, I can still take my headache pills, I think without them I woudl die sometimes Dx That's why I choose this one too, I can't use them when I take the pill :(
Fay_Fay: I did that the first days too. Right after I got it it felt so disgusting because it was not completely healed. But now it feels fine, just sometimes if I don't pay attention and hit something with this part of my arm it's a little 'ouch' moment xD
Music: I asked my doctor because a friend of mine wan ted it too and he told me that they usually don't implant it if you are under 21 :( I think that pretty sucks, 18 would be fine too... but I think it's safer with 21 because the bones and all should stop growing then and maybe the stick wanders before? Dunno, I don't want to try it ^_^; I'm always looking if it's still there :o
I have had mine since I was 15 (changed it a while ago) and I ADORE it. It cost under $25 lasts 3 years, and I don't ever get my period (not since I had it in anyway). I don't notice it is there, and it works, I am not pregnant, nor have I been.
The pill made me really depressed, and I am alergic to condoms, so this is a great thing for me.
My only side effect was a large weight gain, like from size 4 to size 18 (in a couple of months :()
15? Really? :o Wow... hooray for germany lol
But yeah, I gained a little weight too, but after my son was born I've already gained weight, so I never realized... until now o.O
Yeah, I got it in at 15, not really for contraceptive reasons, more for irregularity ect so the doctor was very good about it.
Yeah, the weight gain is probably the only bad thing I have found with it, I went from tiny to huge in a short amount of time, which was upsetting, but my partner loves me anyway, so its all good.
That's good to hear :) I mean, you are still the same person, right? It's not like it changed your personality ^^
Thats not a bad price for BC tbh. I know people paying $30 or so for it. I pay $9 a month for my pills (without insurance).
I don't know. I mean, it sounds neat..but i think i'd be bothered knowing something was in my arm like that. One of my friends uses the ring, but that's really expensive. I think, $100 a month (with insurance)?
Also. I think not having a period is sick and unnatural. You bleed for a reason :/
Nope, didn't change my personality at all, I am the same person, but slightly larger.
I'm 22, I don't get my pills for 5€ anymore. The Implanon costs 300€ and that's it, the pill costs me 50€ for 6 months which is the same price and the price for the pill always goes up and down. I just wrote how much I had payed in USD to give a better view, many people don't know how many USD 1€ is.
And why is it unnatural? There is no need for it, if the shit doesn't go in, it doesn't have to come out. And not every woman looses her period. 1 of 10 women looses it. I'm lucky to say that I'm one of the women whose period got better. I had terrible issues with it before, bleeding forever, painful and all. I'm glad this had stopped now. I'm bleeding for one, maybe 2 days and that's it. No pain, no issues.
And actually you don't even notice the thing in your arm, you can't even see it. Of course, if you touch it you feel it, but that's all. Only if you do heavy fitness you'll see it xD
Sahi: Same here XD
