So lately, I've been seeing commercials for medications with the worst/ most unusual side effects. I'll give an example. There is a drug used for cancer patients to help raise their immune system to help them with their Chemo, but one of the side effects was an increase chance of getting Tuberculous. WTF? Another one, there is a nasal spray for allergies that could give you nasal fungus. So, your nose won't be stuffed up, but you have nasal fungus. That sounds awesome! insert sarcasm Or some other drugs that can give you either diarrhea or constipation. Um, ok? I mean, shouldn't the FDA take a look at these side effects and say to these drug companies, "No. try again. Come up with a drug that doesn't give you hallucinations or nasal fungus."

So CC, what other side effects have you heard of, or even worse, experienced?

Well everybody's body is different. If they didn't put in a warning to be general with everyone, someone could sue. :/

Well, most people don't experience the serious side effects. The drug company just has to report them because they /could/ happen.

I agree though, it's sort of funny when you see a commercial that's supposed to help a runny nose and it has like, all these potential side effects that are 10 times worse than a runny nose.

I've heard of a drug that helps men keep their hair if they're losing it.

The side effect that could occur was 'gynecomastia'. Which means you could be a guy and get boobs. ._.

Yeah it makes you not want to take meds just in case you get a bad side effect.

Have you seen the commercials for the Alzheimer's meds? The list of side effects on that one is huge.

My friend told me about a bag of CHIPS that said 'may cause anal leakage' on the side. WTF? Anal leakage? On a CHIP?

I like the Lunesta one, too. 'side effects may include insert every side effect imaginable here. So if you want to get a great nights sleep, ask your doctor about lunesta today.'

A great nights sleep, only disturbed by constipation, diharreah, vomiting, severe allergic reactions, heart problems, etc. etc.

There's another sleep aid medication that could increase the risk of sleep eating and driving

I can't believe those side effects Ariawyre! I still think the FDA should take a look at some of those possible side effects and say, "No, try again. No anal leakage. No causing people to eat while they sleep"

I didn&;t learn this from a commercial, but Acutane has the worst side effects. Among general dryness (skin, mouth, down there), it causes FLIPPER babies. That is, if you get pregnant, your baby will be born without limbs. But doctors didn&;t know this when it first came out, so a bunch of armless babies were born in the 80s. So like, now they make women go on birth control / get tested every month to make sure they don&;t get pregnant.

i know, holy shit man. i almost had to take accutane, and the doctor gave me a huge manual on it. they put you on TWO birth control meds now. it's crazy. i didnt take, they said it was a last resort.

they also have to make it so that you can ONLY pick it up between the pick-up days and if you dont, then you have to wait another month to get approved for it (ie take the test all over again)

it's crazy man.

One of the worst I heard was for Zicam or whatever it's called....you have a cold, and now, you can never smell anything ever again. Oh joy.

Since you lost your sense of smell, now you can never taste anything. I think I would probably go jump a cliff, because I love chocolate too much to give up the flavor. :P

I've been taking antidepressants since I was 14 and I've experienced some pretty bad side effects over the years. It fucked up my thyroid so now I have that to worry about, and plus I could get diabetes from being on Abilify. I'm actually thinking I already have it because I've been craving sugar all the time lately. I'd seriously rather die than have to prick my finger every day, so I'm reeeeally hoping I'm wrong. D: Close second to worst side effect I've had, WEIGHT GAIN. Yeah, I've gained like 40lbs in total and now I feel huge. Are these pills even worth it? I don't know anymore.

Back in the 90s, where everything tried to be fat free, I believe Lays used Trans Fat, which I think has no calories, to lower fat intake. Lo and behold, it caused anal leakage. :'D

They will write/tell everyone the worst side effects that one can experience. With your example for chemo, from what I took before (that's the 2nd and 3rd injected medicine out of my 9 for one session of chemo) it does have tuberculosis as it's serious side effect but more often than not you don't get that unless you are near someone and that someone passed that virus to you.

Yeah I heard about that . There are other fat eliminating capsules and some even have "warning can have cancer, liver problems, anal leakage, etc as side effects." It's really scary though when I saw one of those medicines.

I looked at the little sheet with them listed on it and was like 'wtf? I think I'll take the constant cramping', but sadly, when you can't walk because of the pain, there's not much choice. It's the meds or going into the hospital to have them drained every two weeks.

One of the possible migraine medications that my doctor was obligated to mention to me (but clearly wasn't actively promoting) had the side effect of "severe headaches"....

What would be the fucking point then?! -_-;
