OH HI I HERD YOU KNOW STUFF BOUT DESE BABBAGE MACHINES SO ANYWAYZ HOW DO I REPROGRAM MY CLOCK RADIO TO DO BLAH BLAH BLAH?

I wish I wasn't identified as a computer geek. I don't -really- know as much as people assume, and it just leaves me in awkward situations where people assume I can fix their x, y, z for them and I usually can't.

pokes old laptop with no RAID drivers Like this!

And today I got asked to redesign a non-profit charity website as a sort of casual job. Nice. I cant even remember the CSS syntax and I said yes. Gaaaawd help me.

Lawl. I'm not a crazy comps geek, I'm more a moderate, I love things like this and that. And I know what you mean there! People just assume that when you know something, you know everything about it. It's so annoying when people just call you for "Hey, how did you say I could...?", you answer, "I didn't understand it very well, I'll go to get you to my home", and there's no escape for the little geek :/

I'd like to be a programmer in the future, but now I now the theory of things, like for what you can use this or that, like general programming (C/C++, Python, Java, etc), cloud programming (HTML, PHP, CSS, AJAX, etc), and similar. And I can't help because I totally forgot my CSS classes I gave myself xD

For a certain response, ping me.

Human teachers are no good, in my experience.

Then again the only programming teacher I ever had was too busy fixing the network in the school library to teach the class. I failed that course, lol.

I understand about half of PHP that's about it as far as programming for me.

I know the very basic things about coding. I'd love to work in computers, though. I just don't know how I can learn. Anyone can help? Like how'd you huys first start learning about tech stuff?

People who want to learn can go to any search engine like Google and search for any tutorial or free book, or just buy one from the nearest place you can.

And I know teachers are bad, at the school, we learn how to use OpenOffice.org and GIMP. Sigh, I don't want to know what I alredy know! I want to know HTML, PHP, CSS, Java, Python, and they always excuse with the same "That's too hard for you", trying to hide that they don't know and such.

Some time ago, I got a format-less text editor and started to code some. I also then created a good CSS to make a good structure and then start making the PHP code to make the features. But that time passed, and I forgot almost everything I learnt. I want to code some, still.

For a certain response, ping me.

i know shit like basic a href = crap and how to connect a printer to a computer, lol. i really wish i knew more though.

manuals and tutorials are very impersonal and it's hard to an individual to learn because not everything goes EXACTLY how manuals plan.

so idk, this "just luk it up" mentality is kinda of pretentious. if human teachers are so bad and you are so into it, why dont you try to teach a lesson?

my stepdad builds his own computers knows all the computer jargon and what not. i wish i did because computers take up so much of my life, i should probably know more about it. :/

I learnt managing computers basically trying things. You won't kill humanity with a home computer, and if you break your OS you can always get a new one, so why don't try with some common sense? That's how I learnt, basically.

It really is one of those subjects that is up to you to pick an area that interests you, look for a guide focus on it and perhaps develop a small project or something.

I find teachers tend to try and go from a to z and in the world of tech if isn't practical to do so. It's easier to pick a small focal point at a time and learn on your own, experiment with what you do, etc.

If that makes me pretentious then ok lol.

I know enough that a non-tech savvy person would know if they just did a bit of research, but I'm interested in knowing more.

I can make a little computer game (and go behind people and correct theirs), make something computer animated, and it's stuff like that I want to study in college. How are game consoles made and programmed? How do you work PHP scrpits and Java?

And of course, consumer electronics :D

Though I fear the things I'm interested it wouldn't exactly be in the same area :/
