Okay, so I've got a project at the end of my class where I'm supposed to pick a "disease, dysfunction or condition of domestic or exotic pets" and give as much information on it as I can, but I don't know which one I want to study. I'll get the information later, I just want to hear about experiences everyone has had and such.

So, any experiences you've had with such things? Any you find particularly interesting? Share please! :D

I raise rabbits, and there is one illness that always interested me. It is informally called "head tilt." You should look it up. It is sad, but most illnesses are. I have never had a bunny have it in my barn, but it is pretty common among some breeds. Let me know what you think. If you need help, I might be able to find some information for you, too. :)

The only one that I've experienced first-hand is Demodex, or Demodectic Mange. It's a type of mite that lives in an animal's skin. Apparently it's transferred from the mother to her offspring, unlike Sarcoptic Mange. My dog had a pretty bad case of it when he was a young puppy. He had several bald, scaly patches all over his body from where the Demodex mites were irritating his skin. As he got older, his immune system was eventually able to fight it off, though.

My parents had a dog who had parvo as a puppy. A beagle and he hadn't had his shots to protect himself against it.. so he contracted it and became very ill. The vet recommended putting him to sleep but we decided to get the pills and try to nurse him back to health. Alot of pills, worry and gatorade later and he's the most loving, annoying, growth-stunted beagle ever. My mom has him now.
